In the past gens, I never got a game on the first day. Always months before. However, this gen I got MP3:C on the first day. Pre-ordered it like a week before. Also pre-ordered Brawl that day. Since then I bought SMG and M&S on launch days.
Final Fantasy 8, I still remember that goofy 9-9-99 gimmick they had for a release date....

Wasn't that also what Sega did with the Dreamcast launch? 9/9/99?
Anyway, I'm not sure but I think it was Final Fantasy 7 for the PSX. I pre-ordered it months and months before the game came out and picked it up the first day. I bought my PSX when I pre-ordered FF7. I was still a teenager at the time, so I didn't really pre-order/buy stuff first day back then, hehe.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Final Fantasy XII, Gran Turismo 4, GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City, everything Crash Bandicoot (except the horrible Crash Cart games...), Tomb Raider, Resident Evil 1 and 2.
The very first would be Resident Evil for the Playstation, way back in in 96, allthough I'm pretty sure the first Crash game came out roughly at the same time, hard to remember.
Halo 2 was my first first day buy, got it at midnight
Xbox Live Gamertag - Deathscythe X
AIM SN - Alexie Di Onie
Normally, I just walk into a store, see a game I want, and buy it. I never pay attention to whether it's a day one purchase or not. Only recently, when buying Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 have I noticed that I was buying a game on the first day. I wouldn't say it was intentional, though.
I did get an N64 at launch. I guess Mario 64 was my first.

Wow, you've never gotten a game with your system?
On topic: Majora's mask. Zelda was the first series I loved enough to actually pay attention to release dates... it would have been OOT but I didn't yet have a 64 when that was released. I might have accidentally gotten some before then, but if i did it was not on purpose. |
Not unless you count Wii Sports. Im a budget gamer so I usually wait until games drop prices or purchase them used. If there is a title I really want I just get my wife or family to grab it for me for a birthday or x-mas gift. Thats when I get the most "new" games. I just cant justify paying $60 for one game when I could spend that same $60 and get anywhere from 6-12 games depending what systems I want the games for.
SNES console, Mario World, Zelda and Starfox were all first day purchases for me. In the SNES days there was a shop called Boots in my hometown, a big chemists for non-uk folk, that for some reason sold quite a lot of video games. They were also pretty inept and sold games before release days. I remember getting Super Axelay early, but beyond that my memory is too fuzzy.
Since then the only game I have got on release day is SMG, at Game on Oxford St, they had the guy that does the voice of Mario, he seemed quite old and frail to me, may not have many "It's a me, Mario"'s left in him, doing signings and free stuff if you came in a Nintendo themed costume.
I bought a PLAYSTATION 3 and Resistance: Fall of Man on the very day it was supposed to be released here in South Africa (remarkably the same date as the rest of Europe, 23 March 2007. Usually South Africa gets everything a couple of weeks later). Retailers actually began selling before the official release date, but since I bought it on the official release date I think it qualifies.
