vgchartz has wii u selling 495k in december. this would mean it outdid its own launch numbers in december 2012 (463k), which is a big deal by itself (we know from nintendo that it was the system's best sales month ever). the npd numbers revealed, however, that the system sold between 550k and 600k, which means it outsold its launch-year december by anywhere between 90-140k. this also means the wii u is undertracked on vgchartz by anywhere between 55-105k, which, combined with the surprise undertracking in france and germany, nintendo's two strongest european markets, could mean undertracking of 150k+ ww.

obviously we have to wait for nintendo's shipment numbers, but i think the system is currently at 9.0-9.1m sold, 9.5-9.6m shipped, which would leave ~500k on shelves (normal for january, i think, what with the holiday stock).

No, you're very wrong on this. Months in terms of NPD talk are measured by .... months. Not 4 solid weeks.

When Nintendo say it's their best month, they mean it's their best NPD.

Last best NPD was 481k. Numerous insides have backed this up and given us the 575k figure as well.

Zorg is also correct, LTD WiiU is overtracked 100k.

Undertracked in Dec but still overtracked lifetime. And it was only 35k under in Dec. Vgchartz has it at 545k while NPD has it at 580k
