Yesterday, we learned Tekken/Xenosaga creator Harada  is working on a WiiU exclusive tentatively called "Project Treasure".

As quoted from gamrReview:

"It's a four-person cooperative action title that involves 'clearing traps, routing enemies, and seizing treasure', but aside from that very little is known about the game."

We also know it's a free to play game.

I want to know your genuine thoughts on the new title. I have 3 questions for you - along with my thoughts.

So what do you figure the gameplay will be like?

The description has me thinking it will be a lot like Gauntlet Legends -- A dungeon-crawler/beat-em-up with some basic RPG elements that was ported from the arcade to consoles long ago. GL was a pretty fun game on co-op because you had to work co-operatively to solve some puzzles while mowing down hordes of enemies Warriors stlyle, but there was always a competition to see who could grab the most loot/gold to buy more loot. Sadly GL never survived the Midway collapse. I always wanted an online mode for GL -- and I couldn't ever find something else like GL multiplayer, either online or local. The arcade versions of GL were always a serious drain on the wallet -- you could really only beat the game if you had the console version. If Treasure does a better job than GL did on balancing arcade/console aspects of gameplay, it could be a real hit.

Do you think it can be successful?

If the gameplay is similar to GL and it only costs like $1-5 a month to get some good items to use on some raids for about 3-10 hours of gameplay a month, I'd consider that a good value both for players and for Nintendo/Namco Bandai.

Will you download it and try it out?

Based on these hopes I have for the title, Harada's track record, and Namco Bandai's solid support for WiiU, I'll definitely try it out.

Maybe it's just my lack of imagination, but I guess I just automatically assume it will look and play pretty much like Spelunky with some microtransactions added. As a result I think it will only be successful in getting Namco Bandai (or is it Bandai Namco this week?) sued into oblivion by Derek Yu. Unemployed, Harada will have to resort to selling his glorious locks in order to eat. He will die of a heroin overdose by the end of the year. RIP in peace Harada-san (19XX-2015).

And F2P does suck. My butt is still sore from Deep Down turning out to be F2P.

Know nearly nothing about it. Not much to even talk about. All I know is that I generally disagree with F2P.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Bump.

Surprised we aren't talking more about this.

From a business end of it, is there a particular reason for this being a WiiU exclusive? Special gamepad/motion features or did Nintendo had Namco Bandai a bunch of money? Or maybe NB kind of lets Harada do whatever the hell he wants?

Sounds odd to me. Like I never expected an announcement something quite like this. I really have to see it before I can judge it though

I don't think we are talking about it because we know so little

I will be keeping an eye on it because it's a new IP but right now, I don't understand what it even is. Plus, it is free to play which is odd.

I guess Nintendo is trying to tell us something about how they're approaching F2P.  I think they're trying to get across to us that they're serious about giving complete experiences by having someone like Harada at the head of the project. Pokemon Shuffle seems very Candy Crush-like -- whereas this looks to be more involved.

I kind of stopped reading right here.

IMO - F2P seems to be okay if there's some collaborative nature to the game/it isn't pay to win. League of Legends for example is an okay game without putting any money into it. Awhile ago I tried Ascend on 360  (which is almost purely PvP) and it clearly was pay to win. I could never grind enough to be anything close to as good as those who paid for the loot.

To me, a F2P game that's pretty enjoyable  and offers a good amount content for less than $10  is superior to a full retail game with various $20 DLCs here and there.
