Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon will be bigger than Zelda

You either have to appeal to the "cod" crowd of casuals with their gritty, realistic shooter or the "AC" crowd of casuals with its simple, relaxing mechnics and Splatoon appeals to neither

You really think it won't sell past a million? Wanna bet?

Also, why can't it appeal to the "somewhere in the middle" crowd? Let's say the Smash Bros crowd? Anyone can play it but you might not be that good. Of course, Smash Bros has the advantage of having familiar characters back it up but you get my point

A new IP, on the Wii U of all consoles, outselling and/or becoming bigger than Zelda? Not gonna happen.

Animal Crossing started on the GC (worldwide) and here it is today as one of Nintendo's biggest sellers. (again, bigger than Zelda)

I love the AC is bigger than Zelda comparison... just reminds how Nintendo fans think Metroid is a part of some big 3, its not. Metroid is lucky to crack top 10.

Yaaas this! Metroid is not a Nintendo pillar; not in image, legacy or even sales.

I see tons of potential in Splatoon. And I have a feeling it'll be a commercial success. Outselling Zelda in future entries? We never know.

What was the name of that anime again? :3

OT: It could totally happen, people still live in the N64 regarding Zelda, it is not a huge franchise anymore, it's just big not saying that's something to be ashamed of, it's just not as big as most people still think it is and if done right splatoon has potential, we'll catch up later about if it has surpased Zelda or not

Nahh, I already have too many bets going to add another bet to my list of bets. But it probably won't imo considering how some of the established franchises are actually struggling to break 1 million which I highly doubt a "new IP" will do.

And the thing is, I doubt that Splatoon will end up being this "pick up and play" sorta game in the same way that smash does because there is just soo many mechanics to the game that once people start playing, will get really good at exploiting. Like, there are platforms which if u shoot at, they will get bigger which provides another way to go to your target location and there are wires which, if you fill them with paint, you can turn into a squid and travel on. This is much, much more of a technical game than cod and this isn't as "pick up and play" as smash bros where if your a noob, you can just pick charizard and spam side + b or pikachu and spam down + b.

Splatoon may look simple but it really isn't and you can certainly see that if you followed all the trailers

I disagree with you here some what Smash is pick up and play but also has deep mechanics, Splatoon could easy be the same.

Splatoon...isn't one of those games that has potential to be a...um fire starter if you'd say. It looks to be a well crafted game, very well crafted but with animal crossing there's something about it that made it catch on fire. I don't think splatoon has that same type of flair.

The shooter fans will continue their own games. This game is more geared towards Nintendo fans. Even a game like DKC: TF has a problem reaching 1 million. What hope would this untested IP have

Could be. Depends on how well Zelda HD performs, and I'm not talking in the sales department.
