Just want to point out that Xenoblade is coming out April 29th in Japan.

Well it has the benefit of a boost from one region then, what's the actual odds on it releasing Q2 in the west?

Probably will be Q4 in the West, and if they work fast enough Q3.  I don't think they will make it in time for Q2 for the West.

In terms of selling hardware, 3DS should do very well, WiiU should be down, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart are far bigger than Kirby, Party and Splatoon.

Not really, the WiiU sales should be more stable than last year, all of its biggest titles are already released (SM3D World, Smash, MK8...) or are going to be released this year (Zelda U, Xenoblade X...). Also, Splatoon looks like it's going to be a big hit, everyone likes it, it should sell well even if it doesn't move that many consoles.

Smash barely did anything for sales over the holiday (marginally up in some places, flat in most, down in others (Japan) by late summer WiiU was down in some places (US) yoy despite MK. Don't know how you suppose they will contribute to the baseline this far out.

ZeldaU and Xenoblade are veeery unlikely to be Q1/Q2 ......

Splatoon gonna be a big hit? Huh? I'd wait for it to release before talking about it being a big hit.

You do know that games like MK8 and smash (Mario.. fit.. sports) are still very big "system sellers"

When talking "System sellers" we are talking people who do not own the system.. (and have not yet played the games) They will offcourse still look at theese games when they decide what console to get.

So fresh games like Splatton are good.. but games like MK8 and smash.. perhaps Donkey and Mario.. will still be the number 1 reason why people get a WiiU in 2015.

Normal people who go get a console from now on.. (after the people looking in forums and wants the best/new console and follow E3 types) will be more casual.. They will look more at price.. experinces*and what games ALLREADY out.

* "what new can this thing do".. and in WiiU case.. "Wow.. amibo.. off tv play/internet.. and the games look way better.. and it's cheapest"

Like my sig says.. i truly believe WiiU will see a much better year.. and that ps4 will start loosing momentum (i know i'm alone here.. but it's my believe in the casuals that are the reason to this.. and you can not in any way change that.. we just have to see :) )

3DS should be up YoY in the first half in my opinion. Wii U will be down unless a price cut happens in the spring, which i think is possible, in that case we could see sales as being flat.

And as I already explained, Smash not doing much over the holidays and MK's selling ability for hardware pittered out after a few months, does notgive me confidence they're going to raise sales. A best flat yoy.

But you do understand that the:

"Should we get a WiiU" "Does the WiiU offer some we want" "Is the games/experinces worth our money"  "value" are only going up..

MK 8 still is the single biggest reason why people will buy a WiiU in 2015-2016 (mayby  there could be other like splatton if it takes of.. But the point is "system sellers" do not have to be new games.. They just have to be good (and if they are loved at the same time.. it's just better)

And last.. That we have to see.. nobody knows.. but i believe that the "should we buy the new Nintendo" are bigger than ever.

The Wii U line-up is fine for me but I don't buy many games to begin with. (Don't have 3DS)

From a sales perspective, 3DS looks set to do quite well, Wii U will need a Price Cut or sales will be rather bad if that's really the whole line-up.

mk 8 will be the single biggest reason why people will buy a wiiU in 2015-2016.   the fact that the biggest reason to get a wiiU in 2015-2016 is a 1-2 year old game is the single biggest reason why wiiU sales will be low in 2015-2016...

...even games with great legs still get the majority of their sales in the first 6 months.

Nintendo probably only gave our release dates for those three Wii U games because they wanted the handhelds to have the spotlight, creating hype for the N3DS.

Give it a month or so, till the next Direct. There won't be a Wii U drought, no need to jump to conclusions.
