The question is how long the Vita will be popular in Japan.

PS machines always have legs, the PSP is still getting new games. The Vita sales will continue until the 3rd party support abandons the ship or producing the console isnt profitable due to poor sales. The release of the next Nintendo handheld will be the event that kills the Vita (in hardware sales). When will that be, I hope 2017-2018.

It's been a long time PSP didn't get any games that boost it's sales,Vita won't survive with late port and niche games

Isn't the PSP discontinued already? Does Sony still makes them?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yes it's discontinued but all consoles hardly have any system sellers games in it's last years

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Far from it, that thing will keep on trucking because third parties won't let it go anytime soon.

7m isn't too farfetched and once Nintendo's Monster Hunter exclusivity expires, even more is possible depending on what Capcom does.

There's already a MH on Vita, the series doesn't sell well on the system (your words not mine).

And the third parties that will keep making games for the thing are the ones with niche games, whose fanbase already own the system.

Jep, Monster Hunter Frontier G. The worst one of the series and which was already available for every other console in Japan for years!!! ;)

Did you know the Monster hunter in vita is a port of a port and it's multiplatform and vita get it's version the last one.

I was trolling and mocking the people who used surefire failures as proof that third party software doesn't sell on Nintendo consoles. Monster Hunter Frontier G is different from the main Monster Hunter series on top of being a port of an old game that arrived on other platforms first.

Even if games are niche, as long as they are releasing regularly and steadily, there is going to be a solid baseline for the system due to continued interest. Throw in revisions, new colors and special editions for the handheld itself, and it's not hard to imagine that the Vita will sell more than 5m lifetime in Japan.

Devs they made easy money by putting a lot of late port games and niche games so they will never support Vita with their big games so Vita will still have bad sales in next years
