Yeah, I could care less about Ziff Davis going bankrupt, after they stopped publishing OPM which was my favorite mag and instead gave me a non-stop supply of EGM. :(

Crisis Core has an 89 metacritic aggregate. EGM gave the game an 86. Not exactly their worst offense.

metacritic is just guessing what their grades mean. stupid system.

Ziff Davis is my favorite source of videogame media, though...*sigh*

 No, 1UP/EGM has already stated that a "C" is a 5 in their old scoring system. It's pretty easy to figure out. Besides, all you have to do is a bit of simple math to figure out what a letter score is in a 100 point scale. That being said, I do hate the switch to letter scoring.

I'm not totally happy with EGM lately, but I hope they make it through. I do go to 1UP for news stories, and occasionally for a review. Their message boards were too much for me to stomach though. 

I used to enjoy reading Electronic Gaming Monthly last year a helpful someone on this site linked a free trial subscription to the community, and I gave it a try. I was hopeful the writing had improved, but ironically it doesn't seem to have progressed. They are still writing articles like is was six or seven years ago.

The problem is this by the time it reaches your mailbox the information is already months old. A review a month after a game came out isn't very useful. The articles are mostly fluff pieces, and the humor is just juvenile. Added to that mixture is only enough reading material to pacify for an hour at most. With an almost sick level of pictures and advertisements. Other magazines on varying subjects are more edifying. They do not let themselves be time constrained, and provide compelling reading.

Basically times changed, and this magazine didn't. That is all there is to it, and it isn't worth buying. Reading it is like reading a elementary school essay that was triple spaced and had one inch borders. Sure its twelve pages long, but its mostly empty space. Why can I pick up a Scientific American on a lark and get eight hours of reading material, and this magazine can last me through a mild bought of late night diarrhea.

EGM's reviews are it's best thing in my opinion but as Dodece has mentioned the information in the magazine is usually very dated. The exclusives it does get are usually leaked onto the internet as soon as the magazine hits the streets. And it doesn't help that the magazine is mostly filler.

I hope they pull out or EGM finds a new publisher as I still love that mag as a 10 year subscriber.

EGM has been in need of a major retooling for some years now. I stopped subscribing back in '06 because of the lack of quality journalism in their magazine. 1up is decent, but also in the same boat. I personally wouldn't miss either of them.
