Yes indeed.  And stranger yet, reservations are continuing to rise.  JD is approaching 140k.  So maybe, whatever the govenment is doing is a blessing really because it gives them more time to produce stock.

That alone is half of what they sold in Japan at launch isn't it?

Of course they would delay it, it's obviously over they initial expectations and it still being in preorder just prove they want sell as much as they can as well as shipping the most.

It can be better this way than making so much people have to wait for the pre-orders to come because they had not enough.

This way it seems better as everyone is going to get it at the same time within the release date (the new one), not only weeks after it released.

Sony planned to ship 200K consoles annually to China. Even if they dump all 200K of them in one go, Sony will still not be able to meet demand. Preorder numbers are already really high and Sony also needs to take into account the consumers who have not preordered the console yet.

Ouch! I hope the reason is to increase supplies, because Chinese government bullying foreign companies, while possible, not unlikely and already happened in the past isn't a good thing (although Western countries asked for it, giving up too much for some very short-sighted plans and calculations in the past, when under pressure from Western manufacturers they allowed the dumping from low-quality products and accepted unfair competition thanks to very low wages and total disrespect of workers' rights and environment just to be able to outsource their production there and enslave those workers for their interests too, then they got righteously overwhelmed, very bad karma and short-sighted stupidity that pretended to be intelligence).

I can't get my head around why sony thought demand would be so low. Especially with their attractive price, region free console, dragon design and games line up.

It's a new market, now one knew what the volume would be.
200K is nowhere near to be "low", it's almost what they did in Japan and that's by far the biggest Asian market.
But it seems like they, as MS, had a plan B, and are putting it into action, with extending the pre-order time by delaying the console and being able to ship more.
The most the console is delayed, the most the demand is growing I would say. (well, until some point where the daley would start being troublesome).

Wasn't 200k their expectations for PS4's first year in China? That's like 1/6th of Japan.

all i know is sony better get their shit in order quick. a delay of a month and xbox will probably sell another 1-2k consoles and pretty soon that lead is going to be insurmountable. they could loose china forever if they don't act quickly.

I hope they manage to get it released before chinese new year, as that's the main shopping season in china afaik.

Ok ok, everyone is talking about the PS4 in China. What is about the PS Vita?!

I guess Sony wasn't expecting this level of demand! Hope the delay isn't too long.

For how long?
