Forums - Gaming - When Calling A Game Overrated is Wrong

When people say game is overrated , they feel the game isn't worth the hype Well I feel people have to understand some things

See what the game got praised and what it is what praised for  , if they are things you don't value in gaming you aren't going to like it

The time it was released,at the time of the game's release the game could have been really innovative or special at its time , however playing at a later date can remove the magic in the game ( unlike other mediums moves forward and other games get outdated quick , films , art and music hold up way better than games )

If it isn't your type of game, some people don't like some games of genres they don't even like and call it overrated , if you dont like jrpgs why play dragon quest or FF if in the end you won't enjoy them aand call them ovrrated

just my 2 cents

NOTICE: I am just mentioning some scenarios where I feel its wrong to say a game is overrated

Whats wrong with calling Final Fantasy 7 overrated cause everything in 6 was better?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I don't have much of a problem with the word itself, but it's pretty irritating when people use it as a basis to claim that their opinion of a title makes those of others inherently wrong. Of course, if you tried to do the same thing to a title they do like, they'll immediately point out that it's just your opinion ^^

Honestly, I think everything is fair game. To call something overrated is simply to challenge the prevailing positive opinion about that thing. If someone thinks a popular game plays poorly, he or he can call it overrated. Similarly, if someone thinks an entire genre is overestimated or that the game in question left a negative legacy, then he or she can call it overrated too.

There's no science to this. It's a personal opinion of another set of personal opinions, after all.

I agree with this.

Sometimes the fans of a series will hype up a game too much and anyone listened to 'em will most likely have unrealistic expectations of that game. If the game doesn't live up to it then it being called overrated is a appropriate term for it. For me, the series, kingdom of hearts and elder scrolls/fallout are overrated. Given too much praise without any mention of their negative aspects is usually the case.

They only say overrated when they jelly. Basically, they don't like people that like what they don't like.
