Forums - Sales - What will be the Sony official 2008-09 fiscal yr shipment target for PS3.?

Actually this is the two part question... as i think everybody here knows that Sony lowered its fiscal year target for 2007 - 08 twice and it will finally i think might just manage to hit 9.5 million may be a couple of hundred thousand short..

So my two question are wot will be Sony officially setting its first target for the fiscal year 2008 - 2009 for PS3 when they present annual report on 2007-08...

Secondly, seeind that they had to revise their target twice for fiscal year 2007 - 08 do you think they will achieve it or wot you think will be the target they will manage to achieve.?

I think they wil be setting 13 million.. as they won't like to be on the safe side... and they will probably manage to hit 13.5 - 14.5 million..

We have to remember the fiscal yr 2008-09 is going to be huge for PS3... all their releases starting from PSN redesign in April to Home launch and MGS4 and FFXIII (remember fiscal yr will end on March 31st 2009, so it will launch by then) and RFOM 2, Motorstorm 2 and many other exclusives are going to hit.. and finally i m sure we r going to see a $299 PS3 in fiscal yr 2008-09... So they might just manage to do well. if they can;t do well with all this then they better start thinking something else.:)

I expect them to have sold to retail around 12.0M consoles from this march to the next, sure it may seem a hard target to reach, but with a price cut it can happen.

I think they will meet the 9.5M for this FY and they will forecast 14M for next FY

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

14M for next year seems about right when taking into account all the games that are coming this financial year!

Then again i will expect Sony to be a bit cautious and set a figure of 11-12M for the year, so that if they go beyond that they have the positive spin of having to INCREASE the amount :D

They will initially forecast 15 million, but only hit 11-12 million.

14 Millions seems about right, 15 millions seems doable with a price cut...

If you look at last year numbers, they won't have any problems selling twice as many consoles per week as they did until like November ( average was like 85k/week last year outside of a few weeks and this year it's like 175k...).
11/11/07 was actually the first time in their fiscal year 2007-2008 where they sold more than they are currently selling weekly..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Monthly sales of the PS3 have doubled year on year, so 14 million is quite reasonable (assuming a $299/299EUR PS3 by fall). Any price cuts before autumn would push this up to 15 or even 16 million.

15 Million is my bet

GTA IV, MGS4, FF13, GT5, RES2, LBP should all hit in that quarter + BLU-RAY effect over the holidays..

They are currently selling 175k units/week.

A year has 52 weeks, typically November is x2 a regular month and December x4.

So November is like adding 4 weeks and December like adding 12.

Make it a 68 weeks. ( 52 + 4 + 12)

175k x68 =  11.9 Millions.

That's if sales stay at their current level.

It's not unrealistic to expect them to go up with the games coming out this year...

14 Million would be the realistic thing to announce but they should shoot for 15 millions.

@Ail

Also with the xmas effect which saw PS3 sales reach over 600,000 consoles sold in a week in december, the week ending the 21st i think it was!

So assuming that sales stay as they are, and also that the holiday has the usual effect then the PS3 will break the 14M bracket for sure. If FF XIII sees a Japan relase in the fiscal year then there is no telling what the sales will be!
