Fuck me dead another thread complaining about prices in America that are below a retail game. You guys need to leave your little bubble and see what the real world is like. I wish Captain Toad was $40.

Everyone else pays much more than you guys for EVERYTHING. Rest of the world subsadises your cost of living.

I don't get this obsession with DLC. Why force someone to buy a game in order to play a different game that's 6 hours long and only available via download? That just ads cost to the parent who's child may not want mario. Retail is also an easier option atm for most parents to get their child without the need to spend more money on a hdd for storage.

The price really is okay for what you get.
I bought it for about 3200 Yen new here in Japan. Right now that's about $26. Pretty good deal.

I think it has enough content and originality to be justify being more than DLC, unless it was some pretty expensive DLC. And I don't think it would have sold better. 2-3 million people might have 3D World, but it's not exactly the type of game that everyone would be expecting and waiting on DLC for (like, say, an online multiplayer game that lots of people play for a long time after release, or an RPG series known for expansions) so it might have been harder to get people to know about it and want to buy it if it was DLC (especially if it was expensive DLC - Nintendo aren't known for that so even if it was 15$ people might feel it as too expensive for something that's "just DLC", even if it had all the content and more it has as a full retail release). And I think it would have been harder to market and have less of an impact (at least in terms of people knowing about it and critical reception) if it was DLC. Going down the New Super Luigi U route and having it available as DLC and as a separate retail disc might have been a good route, but I think it would have been a waste of resources to put all the effort they did for it and only release it as DLC for 3D World. As it is I'd say it kind of straddles the line between a full price retail game and cheaper add-on content, so I think the price (I think it was ~£32 brand new here, where as a full price AAA game at launch might be £45-55, so I guess that's comparable to the price in the US) is appropriate. (I've certainly enjoyed it as much or more than many full price games, and though it is a little short and sweet it doesn't feel much cheaper than a full game).

Yeah I have a problem with the price. I would be happy to pay $20-25 for it but not more.

I remember buying Starfox 64 for like $60 and seeing the end credits about a half our later. For me, it's not about the length. It's the experience. You can pad a game out with filler or you can give me a "pure" experience. I'd prefer the latter because I just don't have the time I used to.

Starfox 64 isnt that small.

45 minutes, then?

Hey, I'm at work and I brought my 3DS (still have the N64 cart, too).  Got some time to kill and the game is with me.  I'll fire it up and see for sure.

*edit*

Started the game at 8:45am. It's 9:28 and the credits are done. I even stopped to text my GF a few times.  The game is short!  I admit I took an easy route (CO, ME, FI, SO, MA, BO, VE) but at around 5-10 mins per level, you have to agree.  But I'm not complaining.  The game is still funeven after all this time.  I've sank 11:31 hours into it according to Activity Log.  Length isn't even a factor.  The amount of fun I had determines if I got my money's worth.

Hi. Long time lurker here. Just here because something about this thread is bothering me. Why no one mentions Ground Zeroes? Seems a lot of people (I know)  passionately defends Ground Zeroes often criticized length, yet are quite quick to condemn Captain Toad for it.

Its because Ground Zeroes had its share of critisism. It was so much that Konami redued the price; which wasnt satisfactory either. I restrained myself putting Ground Zeroes name because of this reason.

I played it!  Wasn't even rushing.  You do realize that you have to do certain special things to find alternate routes, right?  Just played it this morning.  The game literally pushes you through from beginning to end.  Starting from Corneria to Venom using the route I took was only about 45 mins!!

Post that speedrun.  I wanna see it! Or maybe I'm the greatest Starfox player, ever?
