They have nothing marketable.  Sony have Bloodborne the order and marketing rights to battlefield hardline.

How has Microsoft nothing major planned for this half of the year. Terrible planning and foresight.

Sony have marketing rights to Battlefield hardline? I didn't know that. I reckon my 9 million lead by the end of March is a shoe-in.

I would have expected Xbox One to still be close to the PS4 for January and beginning of February. I was counting on those 2.6 millions Xbox One sold in November and December to push the "buying what my friends have" factor. And I m guessing that is the momentum MS was counting on

MS will likely have a big promotion for the releases of the order and Bloodborne. Something like an extra free game thrown in. They did it for lots of releases last year.

maybe/probably right, but what game exactly will draw interest? do they have anything new or semi-new for a while in terms of big impact exclusives, their current bundle already has 2 games, maybe s.o and forza thrown in with Acreed games for 349 might actually do it... thats quite a bit of value

Because they were expecting to be the dominant console this gen. AAA-budget games these days take at least 2 years to develop, so you can't just throw money and expect a decent AAA game within a few months. You have to plan 3 years in advance, and the fact that they have nothing now and probably next year as well proves that having no games in 2015 and 2016 is exactly what Microsoft planned in 2012.

Why?

Because they wanted to coast by with only Halo, Gears, Forza and Fable for the rest of the generation with nothing spent on making new IPs. It worked wonderfully well for them last generation, and they wanted to repeat that sucess. And this is why I will never buy anything Xbox related. SONY has proven that they will spend money on making new IPs and consumer-friendly consoles even when they're ahead. Microsoft won't. The instant they're #1, it'll be Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable until the end of time and a weak next-gen console to cut costs.

And the PS4 continues to be a steady rock at #5. Including TLOU with every PS4 was a very smart move by Sony.

I would not expect Zelda to hold #4, seeing as it's currently a preorder.

Yup! Remember the demo/beta that was, initially, exclusive to PS4? Sony announced at E3 (or Gamescom, was it?) that it would be available right then and there! And your 9 million lead by March is solid. I'd say it may be even a tad higher, by then.

I'm not going there! I originally thought the PS4 would sell 18.5m in 2014 and then let people persuade me it would be higher. DAMN THEIR EYES!

I only place that confidence because of exclusive releases at key points. Sony has Feb and Mar covered. That said, I don't stand behind it with any sort of conviction, I just tthink the possibility is strong, given the circumstances.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I roll too. 'Good chance'.

They had terrible support for the last few years of the 360 they should have had every 6 months covered but instead they focused everything on paying 3rd parties for a few average launch exclusives and over crowded the Xmas period.why not delay sunset or halo until March. O gears of war 4.

So it's safe to assume ps4 is still ahead even after the price cut or we need to keep waiting as to where xbox one will settled?.

Only four places between them on the hourly chart right now.
