Forums - Nintendo - How did Nintendo win developer of the year at the Game Awards?

Well I consider Nintendo EAD to be Sony Japan Studio.

Just checked and Japan Studio has done some vita games and other small scale games in recent years.

That's an odd way of looking at things

If Sony owns a studio, then that studio is "internal".

Nintendo has its own internal studios for making games. They develop AND publish said games.

Sony hasnt made an internal studio game for a while.

Ubisoft are just crap.....

What would qualify as an internal studio game? Very little has changed, they've only added development studios.

Why? Japan Studio is no different than any other Sony owned studio? It's made up of multiple teams, just like Santa Monica (4) and Naugty Dog (3).

Unless it's a game not specifically developed by a part of the company, I think saying it was created by the publisher whether it's Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, EA, etc, is fine. The publishers own the developers, so in essence, the game was created by the publisher.

Games like Bayonetta 2, Dark Cloud, Shank, etc, are third party developed titles that are only published, not developed by part of the publisher, so they're by their respective developers.

With Japanese publishers though, Capcom, Nintendo, etc.  Most of their development teams are just numbered teams.  So the odds are stacked in their favor when journalists single out western developers.

Publishers that act as giant mega developers do have a a rather unfair advantage in these sorts of things, but i can understand why it's done this way. If we require teams to be individually defined in order to win an award, many "normal" developers (like Naughty Dog or 343i) would be disqualified too. It becomes especially complicated when those internal teams frequently swap around, join and part.

Nintendo Mario kart 8 won VGA award beat out forza horizon 2 that why. >.>

Lets be real here after the fuckups Ubisoft did this year I think they are happy to have all their studios under different umbrellas so that it doesn't bring the company name down below EA.

Well because I dont consider studios like Retro Studios, Intelligent Systems, etc to be internal for Nintendo.

Speaking of Ubisoft... do the non-Montreal studios actually make games? I think I've only ever seen them listed as assisting with games and not actually making any by themselves.

I think the Rayman games were mode by the Ubisoft of some part of southern france (Montpellier perhaps?), and Ubisoft Romania used to make the submarine simulators Silent Hunter

Me and many others felt that the Game Awards was staged for Nintendo to win. I guess they're really desperate for attention. BSHADOWS GAMING said that some of the games mentioned at that show were somewhat better than the Nintendo games. He talked about it on his channel.
