According to VGChartz around 450k. I could live with 800k...that was profitable during the PS2 era.

It's actually pretty sad to not see Bayonetta 2 reach 1 million sales. The original sold like 2mil+, and the sequel is better than the original.

The question is still the focus, but I was shedding a little light on Platinum and third party history. I believe its better to cover some ground so we can figure out in a positive matter to remedy Nintendos issue. It doesn't have to reach them, bur rather stretch a little mental muscle.
If you're driving at what i think you're driving at, i don't think Nintendo is going to do anything else too unique with the Wii U: there may be third party partnerships, but they'll be more in line with Hyrule Warriors, for instance, which paid off pretty well and is less risky all around.
The trouble with Platinum is they make games that entail a lot of nice, expensive spectacle, but put them in very niche genres. Bayonetta is their best bet because it's the least weird, in a genre that *can* sell well under the right conditions, and Bayo herself is, of course, pretty appealing. But they need to figure out a way to make their projects cost-effective.
Scalebound will be interesting to watch, in terms of how ambitious it is production-value-wise and if they can reach a bigger audience for once.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I don't get it. Everyone got what they wanted. Nintendo got their big exclusive, Platinum got their money, gamers got their sequel. What do sales have to do with anything?
Fun fact, Scalebound probably won't have an easy time reaching the million either despite being on the bigger platform.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
well, there where a lot of price cuts and disconts with W101, so i believe bayonetta 2 will follow suit. The good thing is, can only sell more from now on.
I too understand you concern about games like this not breaking even, but i think even nintendo know that this will happen, but since they cannot afford do more games or pay for bigger games, they do what they can. Its okay, amiibo will carry our needs, and it is what really matter for me.
"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

True. What a beauty of a game. I am a huge hack n slash fan. When I buy my Wii U...that will be one of the first games I buy.....new...not used.
I hardly doubt it will even with digital sales included.
