Sure, hand drawn PICTURE communication is much better than always having up-to-date savegame-backups of all your console and handheld games...
... until you lose several hundred hours of game progress because your home console breaks or gets stolen or a game/application goes crazy on the flash memory or your handheld gets wet or lost/stolen or your handheld modules get lost...
I love the safety net of automatic cloud saves in case something goes wrong.
It took me one hour to connect to the eshop, system update and buy/download a small game on 2DS. (100 MB max)
It took me 3 hours to system update, buy/download infamous ss, tlouR, injustice and a few f2p+ all software updates (~80 GBs total) on ps4

My 3DS got wet and needed to be repaired. I didn't lose any save data nor did I have to pay for anything.
Besides that, not a single Nintendo console has broken on me.
Why on earth would you want Nintendo to invest in something as expensive as cloud for something as useless as that?

Im sorry but what? XD That seems ridiculous. In all my years of online gaming Ive never had a penis in my inbox. I do get that Nintendo is aimed at a younger demographic and I whole-heartedly support them in everything they do, but there are certainly ways to prevent things like this from happening while still allowing some of the features it's missing.

So cloud save backups are useless because you got lucky and the microsd-card (download games) or game module (retail games) didn't get damaged together with your handheld?
Your games or handheld or microsd-card can't get damaged or stolen or misplaced?

How would my sd card get damaged from a little bit of water on my 3DS?
I'm saying it's not worth the effort for something that isn't likely to occur. No ring of death with Nintendo consoles...
Besides, I've finished all my 3DS games and don't care for the save data anymore.
Some water damages are more than "a little bit of water". The included SD-card of my 3DS XL stopped working from one day to the next without incident... couldn't be reformatted either.
Luckily it was in the first weeks and I wanted to replace it with a 16gb card anyway, so no big loss. But there are countless possibilities how you could lose your save games, don't play dumb.

We have twitch streaming which is by far more popular than miiverse.

lol of course is more popular. Twitch is on pc too. And miiverse is only on NIntendo consoles
