Forums - Nintendo - What is wrong with Nintendo's online?

Since Nintendo online is free, I am not complaining. And personally, I am not a fan of trophies and achievements. So, it is definitely not worth another $40 a month for me. HOWEVER, I do think they should implement a messaging system. But then again, they do have Miiverse. So in a way, they have one, but it just is not convenient enough.

It´s 40$ a year. And aside from trophies/voicechat/proper friend system/match making/messaging and so on you also get games.
EDIT: the games are actually the reason I´ve been a plus subscriber for 2 and a half years now

It works fine and hasn't been hacked, so I can enjoy mk8 and smash over the holidays

It's bad because it's bad ok?

It's just extremely simple and a few games are kinda laggy but it still gives you the basics.

Thanks for all the great memories!

I would say that Party Chat is a big thing missing. In game chat sucks. Simple as that. Organizing a private match using in-game chat and messages is a nightmare. I've had a lot of problems doing that on TLOU on PS3. After entering a clan on KZ: SF, party looks amazing. It's much easier to get everyone in one place and decide what to do.

A message system is basic too and trophies/achievements should be there. I would say that a big issue is that PSN and Live added a lot of social features, streaming, sharing and that's simply awesome. You can stream your game to your friends with 2 button presses, or share videos on Facebook and so on. Nintendo Network looks like it's playing catch-up with XBox Live/PSN circa 2007. Sony suffered trying to put PSN at the same level than Live because MS had 5 years of advantage. Nintendo now is suffering because PSN ironed out the problems (after 7 years!) and both evolved in the same timeframe.

Many things.. but these are a few I wish they could implement to help feel connected to the world rather than feeling like I'm alone..

- Achievement/Trophy system, to compare with other players and your friends.
- Instant Messaging/Voice messaging, so you can message friends and check back quickly without interrupting the game.
- Party Chat w/ friends, to voice chat with friends while playing games even if you're not playing the same game.

I'm actually shocked that Nintendo doesn't have any of those. I guess because of the local MP focus?

Because with the above, the miiverse would lose its all age suitability and millions of creeps would keep filling inboxes with penis pictures not to mention that every game I played on my PS3 had to have chat disabled when children were even in the room.

Online on pse is nothing special but ps plus games are nice. Online multiplayer was always dropping for me to an embarrassing extent. Then Xbox seems to have to same issue. I've used them in both the U.S. and E.U. The nintendo online rarely drops me offline.

I can only comment on the 3DS version, but it's crazy how they don't let you send messages to people you've met online, or add them as friends.

Some kind stranger traded me a rare Pokemon I really wanted, (definitely did me a favor), and I was unable to send a thank you message or add him as a friend. I can see him in my "acquaintance list", but can't add him as friend or message.

I guess Nintendo fear that everyone is an online predator.

Oh my god.  You fell for the oldest trick in the book.  If it wasn't for Nintendo, you'd be tied up in the back of some guy's van right now.

PS3 online is free and that's leagues ahead of Nintendo's, so it being free isn't really a valid excuse. Nintendo has had the better part of a ddecade to play catch up with Xbox live, just how Sony did from 2006 onwards.
