Forums - Gaming - EA Now More Valuable than Activision.

This is 6 days old but this is kinda interesting.

The stock market had a huge day Thursday, with the Dow jumping 421 points for its best day in more than three years. The day was especially good for Electronic Arts, however, who closed up 1.18 points at 47.24 a share. While that’s cause enough for glee among shareholders, the news here is that with the jump, EA has officially surpassed Activision in value. EA now has a market capitalization of 14.40 billion, higher than rival Activision’s market cap of 14.21 billion. As market cap is the total value of the shares outstanding for a company (share price x number of shares), it for all intents and purposes means that EA is a more valuable company than Activision.

EA has seen great financial success this year and is on track to double their share value from the start of 2014. Activision’s stock, however, tumbled shortly after the release of the highly-touted Destiny — a drop they have yet to recover from.

The problem with most of Activision's games is they're shit even when finished. Very little quality outside of CoD.

Without CoD Activision is a joke.

Well, Activision does own Blizzard now, and Blizzard makes good games that turn pretty big profits, and Skylanders is a pretty big money maker for Activision. But aside from CoD, Skylanders, and Blizzard I have to agree, Activision's IP portfolio is pretty poor. Guitar Hero used to be a success for them but they stupidly drove it into the ground by oversaturating the market with too many Guitar Hero games. They've got Raven Software who was a good developer once upon a time, but Activision is wasting them by using them to make CoD DLC, I wish they'd sell them to EA so Raven could make good Star Wars games again.

While Activision and Blizzard are part of the same company, neither Activision or Blizzard makes decisions on what the other does. They are treated as seperate entitities.

I never played Skylanders but its pretty well regarded. So I'll give them that.

Raven made some decent games, but they didn't make outstanding games. They don't just work on DLC by the way, they did multiplayer for CoD: Ghosts and CoD AW. So they play a pretty significant role right now.
