Forums - Gaming - The Truth About: 30 FPS vs 60 FPS

What is your prefered number of FPS?

< 30: I grew up with B... 17 5.63%

30 FPS: Any higher looks... 53 17.55%

45 FPS: I like a good balance :) 32 10.60%

60 FPS: Any lower is VERY noticable to me! 168 55.63%

90+ FPS: Because im a robot bish. 32 10.60%

Total:302

I think the reason why this theory hasn't been brought up is cause it sounds like nonsense

there's no downside to 60fps over 30fps, as much as Ubisoft would like to claim.

How about how demanding it is ?

The resources could be invested in others area like having bigger world / maps, more enemies, more effects, better graphics.

You snipped out the important part. I said "Speaking for the framerate alone". That is, if you have two versions of a game where the only difference is framerate (same visual fidelity) then the one at 60fps will always be the same or better than the one at 30fps.

In the real world, yes: Increasing the framerate requires compromises in other areas. But many people (Like Ubisoft) try to say that 30fps is fundamentally better, claiming that 60fps "looks weird".

True.

Or you can invest it on having a game that actually plays well.

Seriously, 60 fps is always the better option and the thread is based on exactly what? Your opinion? No facts shown, no links to prove your point in any way?

I wouldn't be so harsh about it. It's just a hypothesis, although it is proven that certain weaknesses in the brain can cause other parts to become stronger.

That said, I believe someone's vision would have to be quite poor if they can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps.

30 FPS with properly implemented motion blur is optimal variant, really. If you need 60 FPS that much there is no point to waste hardware resources on it, modern TVs can interpolate you 60 FPS out of Ocarina of Time running on N64.

Yeah, with gorgeous input lag, therefore game mode.

Actually depends. There are even some action games that play fine with rock solid 30fps. Still i prefer 60fps on racing, every kind of shooter, platformers...

I'm fine with 30fps on adventures, rpg's and action adventures, though a higher frame rate can make real time combat more responsive.

I think I would prefer a better gaming experience over any of that. Ask most Devil May Cry fans if they prefer the original series or the reboot. Most will say the original series and usually the main reason is because those games run at 60fps. The graphics and everything else were still satisfying.
