Sony doesn't have a single AAA exclusive, MS has 5.

Thats the whole point though. MS has 5 AAA games and the PS3 has none. Even so, the PS3 is outselling it weekly. When the AAA games come out for the PS3 it will only increase PS3 sales.

Anyway, Uncharted is AAA to 2 significant figures :P

I agree, with what your saying about sales, my comment was in reply to another's comments.  It is true that brand name alone is helping the system sell with little compelling exclusive software.  Whether or not there will be a drastic improvement when the major Sony exclusive franchises come around is a different matter.  R&C didn't lift sales, DMC4 didn't (though it wasn't exclusive this time).  At such a high price point, one has to wonder if most of the people who would play FF, GT and MGS haven't already bought the system.   Just as Halo 3 didn't boost hardware as much as people thought it would, we may find the effect of these games to be smaller than expected.

It is difficult to tell how much of an effect R&C had because it came out around the time of a PS3 price cut and in the holiday season. I doubt it effected sales much though, going by R&C software sales. R&C isn't that hardcore and it has long legs rather than being front loaded. DMC4 was multiplatform so the sales boost was between 2 consoles.

I don't think big games like MGS, FF etc will have as big an effect as some people around here (crazzyman), but they will give a nice spike (especially MGS4 bundle). The release of these big games will give positive hype for the PS3, which I think is more important for PS3 sales then the actual games themselves.

There is truth in hype. Though in the United States and part of the EU, Fable 2, GeoW2, Banjo Kazooie 3 and GTAIV exclusive content will have the same hype effect for the 360.

In Japan, er.....Ninja Gaiden 2....thats all I have...

No single game is going to lift sales when talking in millions. None ever has. If you look at the chart, the PS 3 is now tracking the PS2 in weekly sales. What will keep it on that track, is consistently good games, and consistent price drops.

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&weeks=80

Both consoles have games, both have good games. The problem is MS will not be able to keep up with Sony when it comes to price. Sony does not need to "figure something out". They already have. It's just a matter of time now.

lol its funny that all Wii fans are sad because the PS3 and 360 fans are fighting each other.

PS3Fan: The PS3 outsold the 360 for 500 weeks
360Fan: The 360 has a 700 million bigger usebase
PS3Fan: We will get you
360Fan: Never
WiiFan: Nobody plays with me

I think the greater matter being raised here is how people are choosing only what they want to see. It's typical cherry picking. The Wii fans aren't lonely, people just want to point out that the Sony fandom is going about this with blinders on, choosing to see 360's defeat as the only victory. But that's off topic and neither here nor there.

Either way, as I have said, the real question is if the Ps3 will ever outsell the 360's total sales by generation's end.

You'll cut costs way more than you cut revenue, and thus increase profit.

You really think Banjo Kazooie 3 is going to move consoles? Fable 2 maybe a few, but no more than ME. Im starting to doubt GTAIV content, because if they want to advertise it they will have to clarify its not in game and you have to pay for it.

I can't think of anyone I know who isn't a huge game fan that would buy DLC for a GTA game, especially if it will be like $20. And they won't choose an Xbox over a PS3 because of DLC if they dont even know what it is.

Price might be a big factor if the Arcade is $229, but if the PS3 hits $299 at the same time that means trouble for the 360 no matter how you look at it. And if both those consoles are under $299, I wonder how the Wii will respond.

Yes is the answer to that. PS3 will double 360 sales by generation's end.

Jandre.  Do you honestly believe that Sony will cut the price of the Playstation 3 by $100 BEFORE April 28th?  Hell, they just had their 1st (2nd depending on how you see it) price cut in November.

If as you say DLC means nothing to anyone, then this fight is already over.  $299 vs $349 (at best).

that's a pretty bold claim. The Ps3 would have to sell double what the Wii is on a weekly basis to make that happen.

I think a big reason why the 360 is doing so bad in Europe relative to NA is because so many of its games go to PC. The PC gaming market is so much bigger in Europe than it is in NA, so people in Europe are more likely to buy Bioshock, Mass Effect etc on PC than 360.

The 360's biggest exclusive is Halo 3. That didn't have a big enough effect in Europe. The PS3 is about 500K behind the 360 in Europe, and is outselling it by about 35K weekly. The PS3 will pass 360 in Europe about June/July time.

In Japan both consoles are doing badly. Although I think the PS3 numbers are slightly lower than normal due to anticipation for the new colour model and Yakuza bundle. I think we should expect 20K weekly for the PS3. While the 360 will be at about 2-3K weekly.

NA is 360's strongest market by far. At the moment it is selling slightly more than the PS3 weekly. It should also be said that the difference between 360 and PS3 weekly sales in NA is smaller than the difference between the PS3 and 360 weekly sales in Japan at the moment. The PS3 is outselling the 360 by roughly 15K weekly in Japan. In NA the 360 is outselling the PS3 by roughly 10K weekly.

I think this trend will continue until the release of GTA4. I expect this to increase 360 way more than PS3 sales in NA because of the DLC. I think it will increase the PS3 and 360 about the same in 'Others'. It will increase PS3 sales in Japan more than 360 sales, but it will be pretty insignificant.

Conclusion: The PS3 will continue to outsell the 360 every week up until the release of GTA4. Then the 360 will outsell the PS3 for about 2-3 weeks WW. After that the PS3 will regain the lead. It will increase the amount it outsells the 360 each week with the release of MGS4. This will continue into the holidays. The PS3 will outsell the 360 in each territory this christmas holiday (yes, even NA).

I agree with just about everything that you've said, except for your GTA assertion. I believe that the ps3 will outsell the 360 WW even during the launch of GTAIV, unless the 360 gets a $50 price cut before hand. If the 360's price is cut by $50 or so (which I believe it will be), then the 360 will outsell the ps3 up until the release of MGS4. After that, the 360's sales spike will have slowed, and the ps3's Summer exclusives (MGS4, Socom: Confrontation, probably Tekken 6) will lift the ps3 quite a bit above the 360. From that point on, the ps3 will only increase it's lead.
