I agree, with what your saying about sales, my comment was in reply to another's comments. It is true that brand name alone is helping the system sell with little compelling exclusive software. Whether or not there will be a drastic improvement when the major Sony exclusive franchises come around is a different matter. R&C didn't lift sales, DMC4 didn't (though it wasn't exclusive this time). At such a high price point, one has to wonder if most of the people who would play FF, GT and MGS haven't already bought the system. Just as Halo 3 didn't boost hardware as much as people thought it would, we may find the effect of these games to be smaller than expected. |
It is difficult to tell how much of an effect R&C had because it came out around the time of a PS3 price cut and in the holiday season. I doubt it effected sales much though, going by R&C software sales. R&C isn't that hardcore and it has long legs rather than being front loaded. DMC4 was multiplatform so the sales boost was between 2 consoles.
I don't think big games like MGS, FF etc will have as big an effect as some people around here (crazzyman), but they will give a nice spike (especially MGS4 bundle). The release of these big games will give positive hype for the PS3, which I think is more important for PS3 sales then the actual games themselves.
