Auron's comments I agree were very trollish. His statement was more of a personal attack than anything, imo.

As for SlorgNet, some of your comments were equally as outlandish as his.

I just reread your post (I merely skimmed it earlier), and I noticed you said that MS could drop the price by $150 without breaking a sweat. That is possible, if they didn't care about ever making a profit on the 360 again. The chances of it happening are slim to none. $50-100 maybe, but not $150 full stop.

However, I agree with some of Slorg's points, though not necessarily his conclusions. Particularly his point about MS being unable to compete on games. This is something that I have been saying since the beginning, and combined with brand loyalty this was my reasoning behind the ps3 eventually passing up the 360, and it was something I was saying even during the ps3's low points last Summer.

With most third party games going multiplat, it's up to 1st and 2nd parties to give each console the edge, and this is an area in which Sony excels. The fact that, of the two, the ps3 is the only one with any major third party exclusives left (MGS4, FFXIII, Tekken 6) has it's affects as well. The ps3 will eventually have a good edge over the 360 in games, imo.

I stated that they wouldn't ever do it, it is not as though I claimed that would ever happen.

As for games, all I have argued in this thread is that the 360 currently has the best library, and will have enough great games in the future to avoid justifiably being described as "crap" by people like Slorg and Auron.

By crap, I am assuming that they are referring to the 360’s build quality, which is undeniably true. Though M$ has been trying to address their hardware “issues” by setting aside over $1 billion  to cover repairs, adding heat sinks, redesigning the mobo and even using 65nm cpus. The problem is that the issue still exists as there are still reports of newer models experiencing “hardware failures”. The percentage of failures may have gone down, but the fact is that it is still around. And there is no denying that the 1st year adaptors (probably around 5m, maybe more) are probably sitting on a time bomb just waiting to explode, or die.

But setting the crap build quality aside, the 360is a good game console capable of dishing out gorgeous games.

As for the topic, the 360 is actually selling better than it did last year week on week. It’s just that the ps3 is selling better than the 360.  Probably due to the bd win, or the improved game library, or the lower price or a combination of all three. The point is that the ps3 is more expensive and has fewer games than the 360 but it is still selling better and has been doing it for 14 consecutive weeks is truly remarkable.

Games are only AAA if you actually want to play them.

You can bang on about oh some internet reviewer gave this game 99%, so clearly everyone wants it. But you are wrong. Look at low scoring Wii games selling a f***tonne because to the people that play them they give AAA fun. I have a lovely PS3, yet there are still lots of typical sony exclusives that if they even got 100% I still wouldn't buy them like tekken or wipeout.

Yes

It is an impressive achievement for Sony, though the real question now lies in whether or not the PS3 will be able to outsell the 360's total sales by the end of this generation.

The only reservation I have is that the 360 has been selling at this price range much longer than the PS3 has so it only makes sense that the people willing to spend $300-400 ($275-$375 if you want to split hairs) on a console is reaching the saturation point for the 360 while the PS3 has just starting tapping this at $400-500. If the PS3 can sell as many units as the 360 has and still maintain these sales then it will indeed be a true victory.

3: Try something weird and new, and hope we like it.

You'll cut costs way more than you cut revenue, and thus increase profit.

PS3 has only out sold Nintendo Wii in world wide console sales once or twice in 80 weeks, darn can not remember. Nintendo can not supply enough Wii's to meet demand, if they could Nintendo Wii would outsell PS3 and XBox 360 combined by 2 to 1 on a weekly basis.

Mind you the Wii can also only sell as many as are available.

I actually thought it was a consistant month... I think that was November... maybe it was one region only I dont knwo

lol its funny that all Wii fans are sad because the PS3 and 360 fans are fighting each other.

PS3Fan: The PS3 outsold the 360 for 500 weeks
360Fan: The 360 has a 700 million bigger usebase
PS3Fan: We will get you
360Fan: Never
WiiFan: Nobody plays with me

Wii fans want PS360 games to come also on the Wii
but this generation is a 3 consoles generation (for the first time) where everybody will have his price.

Time to Work !

I think a big reason why the 360 is doing so bad in Europe relative to NA is because so many of its games go to PC. The PC gaming market is so much bigger in Europe than it is in NA, so people in Europe are more likely to buy Bioshock, Mass Effect etc on PC than 360.

The 360's biggest exclusive is Halo 3. That didn't have a big enough effect in Europe. The PS3 is about 500K behind the 360 in Europe, and is outselling it by about 35K weekly. The PS3 will pass 360 in Europe about June/July time.

In Japan both consoles are doing badly. Although I think the PS3 numbers are slightly lower than normal due to anticipation for the new colour model and Yakuza bundle. I think we should expect 20K weekly for the PS3. While the 360 will be at about 2-3K weekly.

NA is 360's strongest market by far. At the moment it is selling slightly more than the PS3 weekly. It should also be said that the difference between 360 and PS3 weekly sales in NA is smaller than the difference between the PS3 and 360 weekly sales in Japan at the moment. The PS3 is outselling the 360 by roughly 15K weekly in Japan. In NA the 360 is outselling the PS3 by roughly 10K weekly.

I think this trend will continue until the release of GTA4. I expect this to increase 360 way more than PS3 sales in NA because of the DLC. I think it will increase the PS3 and 360 about the same in 'Others'. It will increase PS3 sales in Japan more than 360 sales, but it will be pretty insignificant.

Conclusion: The PS3 will continue to outsell the 360 every week up until the release of GTA4. Then the 360 will outsell the PS3 for about 2-3 weeks WW. After that the PS3 will regain the lead. It will increase the amount it outsells the 360 each week with the release of MGS4. This will continue into the holidays. The PS3 will outsell the 360 in each territory this christmas holiday (yes, even NA).

Sony doesn't have a single AAA exclusive, MS has 5.

Thats the whole point though. MS has 5 AAA games and the PS3 has none. Even so, the PS3 is outselling it weekly. When the AAA games come out for the PS3 it will only increase PS3 sales.

Anyway, Uncharted is AAA to 2 significant figures :P
