While I agree that devices such as Oculus Rift won't get proper support in games for years, there's a part of that article that doesn't feel right:

The screen of Oculus Rift doesn't run at 75 fps, it may run at 75 Hz. And while that's not important per se, how many TVs work at 30 Hz? None. The work at least at 60Hz and when displaying a 30fps picture the TV simply shows the same picture twice. So all that the Oculus Rift or any other device has to do is simply get a screen with a variable refresh rate (what Nvidia calls G-Sync and AMD calls freesync) to avoid that problem.

while your part about TVs and such is correct OR operates at 75Hz exactly because you need to be able to display more new frames (fps) to reduce input lag, as input lag while turning your head in VR quickly results in motion sickness
actually they said 75Hz/fps still is not enough, at 90Hz it starts being ok for most people and apparantly higher VR resolutions even need higher refreshrates to eliminate the problem
variable refresh rates are suboptimal for VR for that reason aswell
It will have full support from the porn industry which will make the install base grow. It's VHS all over again.

You need very high fps, like 120fps, to avoid eyestrains and headaches on a screen that close. And there is a big difference between Frames Per Second or refresh rate in gaming...

Thanks for that.
In that case, with what you say about higher res=more fps needed and what they said that the screen of DK2 is still of not high enough resolution ppi to "hide" the pixels, we'll have to wait a really long time before we see games running on OR at the same graphical quality than on our TVs.

half of 30 is 15, current gen machines are not up to snuff unless visuals are dropped, not likely with how the industry is right now
With having to run at a minimum of 75fps times 2 for 3D, it's never going to catch up with 30fps console games. Add that VR needs about dual 6K screens to look comparable to 1080p on tv, which will need higher fps again.
But we don't have to start at that level of graphics. It should be fine running ps2 era games at 2.5K 75fps. The lower complexity will make it easier on the eyes too at the lower perceived resolution. With some optimizations ps3 era games could reach that as well. GT6 ran at 1440x1080 near 60 fps, 2560x1440 at 75fps is about a 3x increase in pixel through put. I would love to play that in VR. Wipeout HD should easily be able to do it as well.
