Does that mean the PS5 will have games by Nintendo? And the HDS will have games from Sony?

doubt it cause this deal mainly relates to the film disvion of Sony's which is completely different from the gaming divsion.

It is sort of strange Nintendo would opt for Sony though. I'm sure Dreamworks or even Disney or Universal would have taken them up on a Mario movie too.

It will also be kinda weird if Mario turns into a big movie franchise and as such becomes a big money maker for Sony (and Nintendo of course). The day where we see a headline like "Sony counting on Mario to boost profits" may actually happen, haha.

i am kinda curious why they went with Sony Pictures instead of Dreamworks or Pixar or Disney cause i do think a Mario movie is better in any of those hands but its likely cause they simply got a better deal with Sony over those companies.

Taking this with a big grain of salt...

I've said for quite some time that it's high time for Nintendo to start making movies and series based on their IP, although, I'm not quite sure this is the way to go. Sega is apparently seeking to make movies as well, and they started their own production company to do so - that's what Nintendo needs to do as well. Selling off the movie rights to Mario just isn't all that smart.

I'm guessing it might be Sony Pictures Animation that will work on this, yes? That gives me even less confidence this will turn out well; that studio hasn't done anything remarkable, which is needed if you gonna handle the Mario franchise...

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Me thinks its also because they're both Japanese.

And isn't that the problem with companies? They're always concerned about da moneeeh. I would have prefered to see Mario in the hands of Dreamworks or Pixar, those guys have shown time and time again that they know how to make goood animated movies. Sony really haven't. Nintendo should have used this opertunity to strengthen their (and Marios) brand image.

I don't think Nintendo would front the $100 million or so it would take to make an animated Mario film. The Final Fantasy film got Sakaguchi fired basically I think.

And yeah it will likely be Sony Pictures Animation or Production I.G. (Avi Arad works closely with them).

Oh and I remember this animated bit for the Galaxy 2 commercials:

Wah hoo!

And that's kind of the problem with Nintendo; they don't seem willing to spend money to earn money. Having their own movie production company would allow them to make sure the movies turn out good. I've said that Mario, and perhaps more so, Metroid would make great movies. If done right. I'm not sure Sony can do that.

Production IG seem to be a pretty good fit though; they've worked with Nintendo before.

Eh. It's interesting that Nintendo is finally doing movies (if true), but they should have chosen Disney, not Sony. I was actually planning on making a thread on this topic since the Pikmin Shorts came out, but never got around to it. Looks like it's time I did.

And we all know how much everyone just LOVES my threads.

Yeah but do we even know if Nintendo could make a good movie? We saw what happened when Metroid's creator was given full story control for a more cinematic Metroid. Imagine sitting through 2 hours of that in a theater. "The baby ... the baby ... the baby ...".

Mario is as interesting as a brick. His games are good, but Mario the character sucks and always has. Even Luigi has more personality than him. And that guy's a loser!

Give me a Zelda or Metroid animated movie please. Or even Pikmin (I know about the short movies). Or Donkey Kong would be cool too.

This is a GREAT video why Other M failed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqFm1ei6mjo really, you should watch it, 11 min long.

But I agree, Nintendo haven't really shown any great writing chops. Their games have thin stories. But setting up a new company means hiring guys that knows what they're doing. Don't let Nintendo write the story! Hire someone who understands that shit.
