Forums - Gaming - [FORBES] 6 Crucial Changes The Game Industry (And Its Customers) Must Make In 2015

The preorder thing is so true and people need to quit it. I've never walked into a game store on launch day of some game, and they didn't have a copy. The closest thing was last year during the launch week of Luigi's mansion 3D, I went to buy the game, but they said that they only had preorder copies. The guy just gave me one.

I agree on #1. Bethesda really should pay attention to that. grrr. I think that it's both the game makers and our fault for broken games being released. Why? Both sides generally hate delays on release dates. People shouldn't get impatient if a dev wants to delay a game. If a game needs extra polish then so be it. I'll wait on it. No big deal. I know a lot of games that should of been delayed an extra 6 months or more. Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect both seemed like unfinished games to me. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas still have bugs to this day. That shit is not acceptable. Just to name a few. I rather a game be delayed than it be released broken and I get burnt out on it because of bugs. Eventually, I'll stop buying games from a dev as a way of punishing them for their misdeeds.

I also agree on #4. More new IP's, please.

As for #5, I won't buy any current gen games digitally. I lose money that way and you don't technically own the data.

The rest of the stuff I don't really agree with.

I agree with everything, except some people will not agree with the list on number 4 " Less annualized sequels, more original IP ". this type of thing is depend on the market or demand from consumer, so this will continue until the world is end . But the problem is they over use too much and at some point killing  the potential new IP that probably will success in the future. So i guess it's OK if it's  few games but not with many games.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

All make sense. Although I think there is a place for franchises like #4 suggests there should be less of. GTA is only on number 5 in 15 years. it fits well. Assassin's Creed is on 8 in 7 years, this is excessive. Time and money made from the success of Ass Cred could have been spent on new titles, while keeping the main developer expanding and made great Ass Cred games still every 2 years instead of 1 (or more) a year but the publisher.

On the other points, I think #1 and #3 should be joined. They should give limit amount of people the ability to play big single player games just to make sure there are no noticeable bugs. #2 Preordering is fine as long as it doesn't divide up the users experience (I preordered DA:I but with no extra weapons or stuff, I didn't want to 'cheat' my way to victory as such).

I don't even really understand what #6 is on about... maybe the idea that a game is hyped like Titanfall and is just lost after the hype dies out, very few are interested in it anymore while Destiny, while getting that hype still has a passionate following.

Hmm, pie.

Yes, I agree with the article.

One thing I find the worst --- digital preorders! Like the download will sell out.

If I decide to buy a game Day1, I simply buy it two days earlier to preload it and have it ready on release. But those games were only a select few, and after the disasterous launches in the past months, I decided to wait for reviews and user feedback prior to each purchase...
I mean, if I waited for a game 12-18 months, a few more days won't kill me...

#1, 2, 4 & 6: Forbes contributor is stuck in the past.

I agree with all of it

So its basically go back to where you came from. Nintendo is already 90% there.

About the digital thing. Well producing a disk and cover etc is not costing 2 bucks.(remember a phone battery can be sold for $3 and thats more complicated to make and has more valuable materials than a disk or a cover etc)

I dont see why digital should be extremely cheap compared to retail but having price parity or having the digital version even more expensive is really retarded.

The last point made me remember when I was a kid with a Genesis, and I just have like 5 games to play. And I was always playing them. And I was fine with that.

Stop with the one year old games remakes and never again support something like metal gear ground zeroes

Yeah definitely. And people should also stop being judgmental and then a moment later worship physical DLC (amiibo), encourage product placement (Mario Kart 8 Mercedes DLC), buy day-one DLC (Mario Golf), support ports that are obsolete 2 months after release (Super Smash Brothers 3DS), buy 2 completely identical games and in that way give the publisher incentive to continue making 1 save slot and a few ingame exclusive differences (Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire remakes), etc.

I enjoy my 3DS and Wii U a lot but I would appreciate to be without your double standards POE.

OT: I agree with the article.
