Isn't it also likely that the cheaper price of the Wii U is what is attracting parents?

It's a factor sure, but it's still expensive enough to be a high enough barrier. If a kid wants both a PS4 and Wii U equally, parents will always get the cheaper option, but I can't imagine that being the case too often.
