Forums - Nintendo - Capcom announces RE:UC has surpassed 1 Million sold

You know, I would kill for a Code Veronica Remake or even a port to the Wii. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, for full price.

I will buy all of capcoms stuff on the Wii, even thought I played most of it on the cube or PS2.

You know what though. I haven't regretted a penny of it so far. Those games are worth every penny for only slight tweaks. Capcom is just such a great developer.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

1m sales for this (shipped figures) isn't really a lot. Consider that DMC4 shipped 2m units in the first 2-3 weeks on sale.

Really ? Capcom's forecast for RE:UC was 640k units while Capcom forecast for DMC4 was 1.9M units ( combined version ).

^considering Wii games are generally known to cost 1/2 to 1/3 to make than HD games I would say the comparison bewteen UC selling 1 million = profit to DMC selling 2 million.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

RE5 can't come out for Wii, babies need their HD graphics.

RE:UC and RE4:Wii were the olive branches given to the Wii to make up for Capcom not anticipating the Wii would do well and thus by circumstance preventing them from getting the next Resident Evil.

Even if a port for the Wii does come out the game will have already met its threshold on the 360/PS3 leaving little to the Wii. And in the end, Capcom in all their infinite wisdom will say, "Oh see, it sold better on the 360/PS3, screw making games like this for the Wii, we have our own idea of what sells well on the Wii anyway."

3: Try something weird and new, and hope we like it.

You'll cut costs way more than you cut revenue, and thus increase profit.

Good games deserve good sales... Capcom needs to reward the Wii for the loyalty

Shams, I'm certain that since DMC 4 is multiplat (and therefore costs 10% extra), costs more to make, and is likely to have less legs, Capcom made more money on RE:UC and RE4 separate, than on DMC4

Quite possible. Without some numbers, its hard to do a real analysis. RE:UC has been in development for a long time.

The profit per (shipped) unit on DMC4 is no doubt significantly higher than on UC or RE4.

And if the development cost for their internal DMC4 engine is be shared amoung various titles - that helps considerably.

...

I'm basically saying, that I think its in Capcoms interest to spread out potential releases for RE5 - release the 360/PS3 versions first, then throw it to the Wii/RE4 team for 12 months for a quality port - plus extra content.

We've known about RE:UC for a long time, but are you quite certain it's been in development all that time??? I have VERY high doubts that the development time (and cost) for RE:UC was even half of DMC4...

...which contradicts your next statement that profit per unit of DMC4 is higher than profit per unit of RE:UC. Using nice round numbers for arguments sake (since I'm lazy), say they spent about $500k on creating RE:UC (selling at $50 a pop) and about $1200k (more than double) on DMC4 (selling at $60 a pop). This translates to selling 10k units of RE:UC before making a profit and 20k of DMC4. Now, which one seems to have a higher 'profit per unit'???

And then you go on to say development costs for DMC4 may have been shared - but don't you think RE:UC costs have probably been shared as well? Don't ALL companies do this for all of their games? This would reduce costs of developing RE:UC equally, of not more, than the costs of DMC4...

Of course, my numbers are all fiction since I don't have those concrete numbers, but I don't think it's unreasonable to assume a game of DMC4's stature (and the fact that it was made for multiple consoles) would cost at least twice as much to develop as a 'rail shooter' game with spin-off stories from the past decade...

I forgot to mention that RE:UC was outsourced by Capcom to Cavia ( a low/mid japanese developer ).

Also if I'm not wrong, DMC4 was announced on E3 2006 so was in development for about 2-3 years ( at least )
