Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has to do something fast!!!

1. Games, brand strength, more attractive hardware, no price drop for WiiU in a while (it's overpriced, really)
2. Nothing for WiiU except price cuts I guess. Guarantee much better 3rd party support and a more competitive console for next gen.

I pretty much agree. After all Nintendo are working with western devs for the new console.

I love how people defend Nintendo by claiming it's making a profit on every Wii U sold. It's called market share loss. It's not a good thing regardless how many millions you make.

You think it's okay for Nintendo to keep selling under 20 million units every gen from hereafter as long as they make a profit?

Because that's pretty damn easy to do. Just keep releasing cheap and under-powered hardware and project between 10-20 million sold. Not a sustainable business model since it's all about growth.

why you need growth?

they should drop the gamepad and make the console cheaper without losing any money. The Wii U is not competitive with costing 280 bucks, people wouldnt mind buying WiiUs for 150 to 200 to play exclusive games along their core machines.

Again this nonsense!!! I'll post that again then:

I disagree with you, while A gamepad is not essential or mandatory to play console games, in this case: the WiiU, the large majority of the games use it in a mandatory way.

In order to drop the Gamepad, you would have to rewrite & retool the code of all the games existing, patch them, redo the console OS & even worst drop a unique, differentiating way of playing games for what, maybe a few thousand sales? All the games would have to be retooled, you certainly can see how it doesn't make sense at all.

If you simply remove the gamepad on the WiiU, the console does not work. To make the WiiU work without the Pad would take enormous amount of time, money for an hazardous outcome.

It takes at least between 1 & 2 years to make a game, so games without the gamepad would start releasing in 2 years, near the end of the WiiU life cycle, can't see that happening or anyone interested in dropping money on such an hazardous venture. I'm sure you can agree with that?

Not to mention the immense amount of customer confusion that it would cause. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_confusion

Your whole rant is pretty much a copy and paste of the mandatory Kinect PR spin.  I call BS.

I can't speak for the North American market but here in the UK you can get a Wii U with Smash, NSMBU and an amiibo for £199

Imo what Nintendo should do to help is drop the 8GB model make the 32GB come in black or white and drop that to the price of the 8GB model. Seriously whats the extra 24GB really gonna do? This isn't a 500GB PS3 compared to its 4GB model.

Just look at these prices:

http://www.game.co.uk/en/hardware/wii-u/?merchname=topnav-_-WiiU-_-consoles

8GB with Smash, NSMBU and amiibo - £199.99

compared to

32GB with MK8, Smash and amiibo - £284.99

There's no way MK8 over NSMBU and an extra 24GB is worth £85

The general public only ever see the 32GB models as thats more profitable for the retail companies thus the one they advertise. Wii U IS thats cheap its just that most people don't know. Xone and PS4 are £299 here with 2 games, who wouldn't pay £15 more for that?

Also do some limited ed. bundles like they do with the 3DS. A yellow Wii U with DKC Tropical Freeze and throw in the DKC VC games and the DK amiibo.

Oh and advertise!!!

Wii U will never beat XOne or PS4 BUT it should be doing better than it is.

i think they have done a terrible job at marketing the wii u this gen. I also think the low out put of games for both wii u and 3ds contabited to low sales early in the life cycle and that has had a really negative impact on sales. Im in the uk and may shops either have very little or no nintenndo stock and that is somthink nintendo must adress. There is no point spending vast amout of money at this stage in marketing they must be srewed and squeeze out as much profit they can and start again next gen

This!!!

The marketing is atrocious!

As for game output, I think it's an issue they reckoned years ago, but that's not something you can fix overnight. They have been adressing this issue for the last years, Kyoto additional new HQ building, hiring like crazy in Kyoto, Tokyo, @Monolith, @Retro, @ Next Level, @HAL (with new, better, larger office) outsourcing & getting help from 3rd parties... so huge steps are being made but it takes time to hire quality staff, re-organise teams & make games!

IMO they should spend a buck or two & buy medium sized 3rd party companies, like Platinum, Level5... & when capcom has lost even more value, raid the crap out of them!

As for spending $$ on marketing today, it's always a good thing if you want to turn things around, but it's not enough they need to do way better marketing so I would change of company because whoever is working to them now is dreadful!

They wanted easy save money, one console with 2 strong or main & secondary franchises. GTA V & Call of Duty. (FIFA for European) while the rest of games like Ubisoft or Konami just rentals.

Wii U..... I don't know what happen, just suddenly poor sale for any random reasons pointless, maybe 3DS is enough for them or they want same game(i'm not sure).

Well-established online communities: SONY AND MICROSOFT = brand fidelity and hours consumed within the time available to the player to play.

Nintendo is paying the price for not having invested in online.

Game Over.
