Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has to do something fast!!!

Tired of hearing people say drop the gamepad, its what makes the U what it is, sure not a lot of games use it, but certain games would become unplayable, i for one love the off tv play, and games like ZombiU, Deus Ex, Game&Wario etc, plus use it to browse the internet/miiverse.

I care more about profitability than sales.
Nintendo made more money with the n64 than Sony with the PS1 even though the PS1 sold over 3 times more.
If Nintendo is profitable they will continue making the games I want to play.
I am interested in the Nintendo sales, but more interested in their quarter results which we will get I think in January.

I just need to point out "remove the gamepad" is not anymore an option for Wii U than removing the Keyboard is for Windows. It is an integral part of the interface for a large amount of the software as well as the OS.

Essentially, a Wii U without the Gamepad would be like a Wii without a Wii remote, most games won't work with it, and any of the games that possibly do work will have to be patched. In addition, no more Miiverse, a new EShop will be required, and many other things would need to change. By the time development for that wa complete, the next generation of consoles will be due.

They could offer a "WiiU Core", if they wanted... an entry model with a WiiU Pro Controller instead of the tablet controller, which would play every WiiU game that supports the WiiU Pro Controller. Of course this "WiiU Core"-model would be upgradable with the tablet controller sold as accessory for the games that absolutely need the tablet controller to work. Like Wii Fit accessories, Kinect, PS Camera, EyeToy, bluetooth keyboards and mice...

Of course Nintendo would have to tweak the firmware and some of the WiiU-programs for that, but it wouldn't be an impossible mission.

It won't be a "tweak of the firmware." or "Just sell the Gamepad as an accessory." The Gamepad is required to use the Wii U platform, it is the primary method of interface for the OS and software, and the ONLY interface for a good deal of features and software.

You did bring up that Windows can function without a Keyboard, but in order for Microsoft to achieve that, they couldn't just "tweak the firmware" on Windows 7 or XP, they had to develop an entirely new Platform over a period of years: Windows 8.

Considering how integrated the Gamepad is, the time and monetary cost alone for Nintendo would be immense. On top of that, Nintendo would have to ask every single company to go and overhaul every single Wii U game they ever made to make them accessible without the Gamepad; do you think Nintendo's relations with third parties aren't bad enough already?

Considering you are using examples of items that were built as accessories, like the Eye Toy and such, as a comparison to what the Gamepad is, I doubt you actually took the time to consider how massive of a change removing the Gamepad would be, and the overhaul that would be required.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Soo.... You want everyone to buy a touch-screen TV and have us stand right in front of it to use it? I don't know what this is supposed to prove.

No, they don't have to do anything about console price or marketing. They reduced (probably even get rid of) their losses and that's all that was needed.

On the software side though, they have to announce Wave Race U for me and the other ~ 500.000 people who want it.

What they "need" to do, is to put all of their games on the App Store and Google Play Store, and charge anything between $0.99-$4.99.

They werent agressive enough. That simple.

They didnt want to lose money. Nintendo defends a sustainable console model and doesnt like taking losses on hardware. Sony and Microsoft are more willing to eat those losses.

Of course, in my opinion this is a bad strategy because you lose customers. Less customers, less fidelity, less potencial money.

But alas, its their choice.

1. Games, brand strength, more attractive hardware, no price drop for WiiU in a while (it's overpriced, really)
2. Nothing for WiiU except price cuts I guess. Guarantee much better 3rd party support and a more competitive console for next gen.
