haha this thread took a hilarious turn, its been a while since ive seen someone try and say vgc tracks shipped and not sold lol

I respect your opinion but please explain how they count up so much sold items from so much stores and add them up? How many stores do they call on a daily basis to get this information?

look up the term extrapolate in the dictionary.

Ok.....as soon as you read a book on Logistics, supply and demand chain.

Did you not read what he wrote. They get as much information as they can and make an ESTIMATE from that. They don't contact every single store and tally the numbers.

wow.

I understand that but even if its an estimate there is no way they can get numbers so close to what these companies are claiming they SHIPPED by getting a weighted average from just a few stores. The link he sent to me suggest they take polls from some retailers, not sales which im pretty sure is not much retailers and is a very inaccurate number. The link also suggest they have insiders at the companies (what i claimed to make the most sense) and they get a more accurate number of how much is shipped.  Which number you think they will use as a foundation to estimate? The one directly from the insiders or the polls from the retailers?

Except VGC don't start that close to the shipped figures. There have been plenty of adjustments to get the figures closers. For one thing there is the monthly NPD reports from the US. NPD use similar methods to VGC to get data, but have a LOT more sources, so are a lot more accurate. VGC adjusts its US figures monthly to be closer to what NPD has. The Japanese figures are usually based directly on the weekly reports from Famitsu/Media Create, who are like NPD but for Japan. Also, when looking at historic figures they have usually been adjusted so they aren't too far below/over the shipped figures already.

Ok cool, so youre saying this site's estimate comes from npd and famiatsu's more accutare estimate? I will wait till next week to see if the numbers are adjusted then.

Oh wow lol your awesome. I admire you.

I know all about shipping and logistics. Ive been tracking sales for a while. Ive also compared shipped figures and sold figures. If any hardware is to close to its shipped numbers its the wiiu

The ps4 has been far enough under its shipments that ioi even had to adjust the numbers up.

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

A lot of people here seem to forget that there are around maybe 4-5 shops in every city around the world that are selling consoles, and not only game shops either. it's not unbelieveable that the numbers are undertracked on both consoles.  but judging from the stock on amazon and toy'sRus etc in your hometown is pathetic.. you know that the world is bigger then just united states right? there are more people in europe then US. there are over 600 different stores in Europe that sells consoles and games. some stores sells better then others, and sometimes these sales can peak on all of them. stop damage controlling based on your own silly numbers

PSN: Opticstrike90
Steam: opticstrike90

Worked at a SEARS before and this is what we did.

-At closing time. Make a print out of sales from the day.
-The tally of each product sold is given digitally to the "distribution center". Lets them know that our store has sold "X amount" of the PS4's and my store needs to be restocked with that many of them from them.
-Count the tills to make sure what was sold that day, matches the amount with the till.

The distribution center has the combined sales of hundereds of stores. They have five distribution centers across the United States and they all do the same tally system to keep track of what leaves and comes in at them. Their reports go straight to the head office SEARS Roebuck Headquarters.

Finally not driving anymore, so i was able to click on the charts tool this website has to view how many units this site said it sold, as of the date it shipped 13.5 million.   that number is 12.1million.   leaving 1.4 million consoles on shelves(debateable because some still believe its undertracked)

The numbers on this site are in no way perfectly accurate, and many feel they are terrible,  but in no way do they try to be shipped numbers, its sold by retailers.

Hell, there are 30+ GameStop stores alone within a 15 mile radius of where i live.  Over 6,000 GameStop stores in the US alone.
