I'm not saying I'm the word's law when it comes to when somebody will purchase something. Sure, it's likely that there are some people who wouldn't buy it because it's too big. However, it doesn't even compare to the amount of people who would wantonly repurchase a console that was half the size, including those people who were holding off.

Yea I agree that the final designs for PS3 and Xbox360 weren't neccessary.  But the PS3 had it worst as the 2nd design was the better.  That top loading function just felt cheap.  The first slim 360 was also a pretty good design, it did look pretty sexy in white.

The Surface Pro designs aren't bad but nothing special either when comparing to tablet looks.  Unfortunately MS aims it to replace laptops yet the Surface Pro is quite difficult to use on ur lap with the keyboard.

There's nothing horrible about MS designs but they're nothing great either which is why I said they're not a designing company.  Majority of their products look pretty normal.

Just remember that the ps3 took 34 months before a slim released.
x1 will do it in less than 24.

i meant to say the ps4 looks like an oversized eraser. For me size doesn't matter at all.  As long as it plays the games and doesn't break. Afterall we buy consoles to play games right as that what gamers do ?  Soounds like theres a competition  where if your console not petite and sexy , its not worth getting XD.    I see you mentioned the dimension, however ps4 heats and gets hottter way faster then xbox one. my xbox one never gets hot but my ps4 does . i have to switch it off as i do not want to overheat it. To me xbox one is a sexier console then the ps4. 

Hmm it's not really a competition. That's not the point I'm trying to make.
The point I'm trying to make is that MS deliberately filled the console with "filler" in order to release a smaller one quickly that would prompt previous owners to rebuying the new system for the convenience, while not really spending any additional money on R&D. Basically, what I'm saying is that MS sold a purposely under-engineered system so that you'd buy another system in the near future.

It's like a chip company that has half their bag full of air, claiming it's to ensure each chip is perfect or something, and then later releasing a smaller bag with no air to make it seem like they're actually filling the bags up to the brim, and charging slightly more for it.

It just smacks of rushed design to me. They wouldn't be so wasteful on purpose. They started too late or they had trouble with their previous concept. Remember, we didn't actually see the Ps4 at the big PS4 reveal event because they were still working on it (much to Major Nelson's amusement).

I can see the issue people would have with the size of Xbox1,it is on no way a rushed design. It is designed to be as quiet as possible for a system that is designed to be on the whole time when the TV is on, not just playing video games. It was designed as your media hub, you would never hear it watching a movie no annoying fan to take away from the experience of certain movies to even adjusting it's xbox logo during different lighting conditions.

Yes, it has alot of room in it, looking at the inside I can see numerous places you could stick the PSU inside. A larger area, combined with elevated components allow better heat dissipation. I looked at the inside of mine and thought about modifying the platform that the harddrive sits on to hold a 3.5 hdd, since they are much cheaper and available in larger sizes.

I have not read any issues with people complaining about the xbox1 fan making alot of noise, but I have started to read people talk about their PS4 fans kicking on during certain games. Infamous SS, and Killzone. I have not experienced this myself, I have only heard a little bit of the fan on. But how does this work into Sony's plan to also make the PS4 as a media hub with the upcoming service of PS Vue?

the question though is that when the inevitable slim comes out and everything is packed together and still makes the same amount of noise, what will the reasoning be? Because no guarantee you that all of this could be much smaller at makes the same sound.
the ps4 has whine because it is a smaller fan, and a smaller fan has to spin a lot faster to generate the same cooling power. I switched to large fans in my pc and it made less noise too. Yet being a larger size and taking up more room they should have been louder, right?

and there's the possibility that Microsoft purposefully designed the X1 with the idea of a slim version somewhere down the road.. again, so what?
