Trevor was sort of a callback to the glory days in V, but in general I would like a bit more irreverence in my gta while not going all out saint's row goofy.
There is a mod for GTA: San Andreas on PC called San Andreas MultiPlayer... It adds multiplayer to the game and a server holds up to 100 or 200 people. Me, my brother, and cousin all played it together sometimes. You choose to be a cop or robber or whatever and your pretty much free to do whatever you want. You can get fines for committing crimes and also arrested. When you get arrested you spend a little time in jail. It's kind of like what you are saying.
I'd like a game with a deeper open world than gta. Perhaps add some resource management and strategy elements.

The game should have focused on Trevor and silly adventures grounded in reality. A nice balance between serious and goofy allowing breathing room for more mission variety.
But these GTAs are selling big so chances are Rockstar will continue the trend of trying way too hard to tell a story.

Yeah, it can be pretty fun. It was a little buggy and the servers could be somewhat laggy but it was still fun. You can rob convenience stores, casinos, banks... Then there were random money drops and stuff too. We would always try to rob a bank or casino but its hard to do because the cops are all actual players in the server and not ai. They usually hang around the bank and the casinos would be clear. So we came up with a plan to rob the casino. We had one guy be the getaway driver, one guy went in to get the money, and the other guarded the entrance with a gun to slow the police down. The two people going into the casino bought parachutes and after we got the money we ran to the roof. The people playing as cops would chase us up and we jumped off the roof and landed by our getaway driver. The cops didn't have parachutes so we got away.

Gonna have to look into that. Sounds great. Thanks for the info!
No please, I don't want more videogames about ethics and morality, I just want to have fun. GTA couldn't do half the stuff it does if it tried to introduce a system like that.
Gta 4..... Roman or wife being murdered based on your choice...
