nope read my reply GTA doesnt condition anyone to think what happens in that game is normal its absolutely the opposite of normal. Or why do people not think about the other insane stuff as normal... The lifes depicted there are caricatures totally over the top nobody would consider that as a normal persons life. The prostitution part is the most normal thing about that game. And I dont see how it would influence people to emulate that life style. I have yet to see kids trying to hijack vehicles and abandoning them 3 minutes later because some nicer one drove by or stealing tanks and bombing the police.

It is a normal part of society. Countless prostitutes every town has atleast a few dozend. Also why does this conditioning only apply to the prostitute part of GTA ? GTA showes an insane lifestyle so GTA conditions people to think that stealing helicopters and bombing the city is a normal part of life or shooting innocent people with a machine gun stealing tanks robbing stores why does the conditioning only apply to the prostitution and not the other parts of gta. i never met any person that plays GTA that is convincend any of that is a normal part of everyones life. Also yes the womans body is a sexual object same as the males body. It goes both ways humans are often reduced to their sexual qualities its normal. If its a athletic guy in his underwear or a pretty girl in a bra. Its superficial and thats the point there shouldnt be a meaningful connection to some billboard its all about manipulating human base instincts objectifying people is part of that. |
We were only talking about the prostitution aspects of GTA not anything else. Is it okay to only see women as sexual objects? That is why there exists so many perverted people that can potential turn into rapists and child molestors. Thats is not okay.

Well, people play videogames to do things they can't do in real life, so this conditioning happens a lot more on violent tv show and news.

What is rape culture defined as now?
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

But yeah it's not Rockstars responsibility in the slightest, it just puzzles me why this feature is even in the game other than to appeal to the teenage boy demographic. |
It's part of the seedy underbelly of society, which is where GTA's story arc's quite often take place. The vast majority of GTA is a parody or 'tongue in cheek' look at certain periods of recent US history, and prostitution is part of that (as well as current day reality). Even if people don't elect to do it (I'd say quite a few try it out at least once), that it's there is a mark of the level of detail Rockstar frequently takes their games.

Im not saying that everyone will go out and have sex with prostitutes after playing GTA5 but it will effect some peoples disposition and preconceptions towards viewing women as sexual objects. There are people that have a hard time distinguishing reality from the fictional media. Lets also not pretend we cannot be influenced by what we see and do in any game no matter what content is in it.

So according to you only the prositution aspects condition people into thinking thats normal but everything else they see they think its not normal ? Makes no sense..
Its ok to see women as sexual objects ofcourse. Is it a crime to do so ? It would be unnormal if you see them ONLY as sexual objects though because women are also unique humans with personalities but aslong as you respect every humans rights you are doing nothing wrong. There always existed perverted people that has nothing to do with GTA. Perversion is as old as humanity. People had sex with children and raped since forever. I dare to say it was even more prevalent in the past then today. It wasnt even a crime to have sex with kids hundreds/thousands of years ago. The objectification of women and men in media doesnt cause people to turn into rapists and child molestors there is no reason to believe that unless you point me to some sort of prove, those urges are there in some people naturaly or caused by certain events in their past. in India porn is illegal yet they rape alot over there.
You think if you played GTA 5 and had sex with a prostitute there you would go around raping people ? Ofcourse not... If that is enough to make someone a rapist then they would have done it anyway even without GTA 5.

Probably people playing Fifa and making 20-0 placars also start to see this kind of scores as more normal, or crashing a wall and still drive or having several lifes and survive gunfire...
I won't deny that tolerance to violence or sex is changed by VG but you are quite reaching with your point.

Please do not twist my words because in the context of this thread we are only talking of prostitution and sexualization of women.
I do not believe that it is ok to see women as sexual objects. Being attracted to them? Sure. Obectifying them as a sexual object who should please and satisfy you is not ok. GTA just makes that thinking more mainstream. If you care to see where im coming from, I would suggest taking a look at how the media we partake in can influence and condition us to believe certain things. http://www.jeankilbourne.com/lectures/
