it's about how well the game still holds up today

Apparently not:

The graphics are good for an NES game

Graphics: Decent.

What do you expect me to say? "I am docking a full point from the score because of 8-bit graphics."

No, I'm just making making annoying remarks that doesn't add to the discussion.

A bit similar to yourself in a few threads

I replayed the game when it was released on the Wii Virtual Console and I've gotta admit that without a walkthrough to find all the dungeons I found myself wandering aimlessly very often. Also, it's a really hard game, enemies take away a lot of hearts in later dungeons. It's still very enjoyable (with a map of the dungeon locations).

And just keep in mind that if you played it when it first came out, there was no walkthrough...unless you subscribed to Nintendo Power and/or bought the game guides. The game could take months if you were young, internet-less, and stuck.

My cousin and I often wrote letters to Nintendo asking for hints.  And they replied! I don't think they had an official hint department. We just wrote letters to the address on the back of the booklet. I remember specifically asking them how to kill Gohma.  And we once asked for a map of the Second Quest overworld. And they delivered!  I wonder if my cousin still has any of that stuff...

I remember this game coming with a map (pretty sure it was this game at least).

That's awesome.

It definitely was. Really classy of them, now that I think about it.

The game came with a partial map of the original overworld, I believe.  Many of the blocks in the grid were blank, though.  The map I got contained info on the entrances to the dungeons in the second quest, as well as being the entire map.  It came on two colour photocopied pages.  Pretty sure the map was originally in a Nintendo Power magazine.

Have you played binding of isaac, rol?

Ok I just gotta tag this so I can fully read it and enjoy it when I can! But this quote just felt so good:

It's a very open design with no handholding, and the controls and mechanics feel a bit archaic; so if you are a pansy, go play a hardcore game.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

No, and I don't want to.

Ah I see, you prefer hardcore games then.

No pics make the review bland
6/9 Would read again only if the fate of my cookies depended on it.

The game looks pretty bad.

You really should give it a  chance. I know you're stubborn, but you should check it out.

I can 100% this game without a walkthrough and without dying. I love Zelda 1 it is the most underrated Zelda ever easily one of my favorites and its the best NES game by far.
