I bought the original 3DS way back in the day so I didn't have this problem but my friend just got the new 3DS XL this weekend and he came back home only to realise there was no adapter either. He had run out of charge while playing his console on the way home. He was livid lol.

It's not so much the cost of the charger that is the issue, rather the inconvenience of having to go out again and buy it when you're excited to be playing on your new console.

I mean seriously, this is 2014. What electrical appliance does not come with a charger in this day and age? What is Nintendo going to do next? Put AAA battery slots in their consoles so that we've to keep buying batteries? This is just beyond dumb.

It's a common thing to do in Japan. Honestly, don't know why though. And other places copy. You have more boxes to deal with. VS one bigger box. The AV Famicom doesn't come with its AC adapter and AV cables. Gotta buy them all separate. Nintendo has done it a lot of times with their systems.

It is not common in The States-  it is def uncommon that is why many people buying would would not think to ask or check -  it would be like buying a car then finding out it did not come w tires-  that may be "common" in so,e part of the world but not in most major markets

I know that. And it won't happen here. The states will not exclude the AC adapter. That is consumer suicide here. I meant it's stupid that other coutries follow this. And Japan for even starting it.

I'm sure they expect the mayority of the N3DS sales come from people upgrading, not new users. Not including something the user probably alrady has lowers the price. And if they don't have it, I'm sure they can buy them cheap either new or used. I think it's a good idea.

It s a cheap dumb decision on Nintendo s part that is going to upset many people, particularly on Xmas morning-  upsetting kids Xmas morning is bad pr and does not build good will

ecen if you have an old one, chances are they wil either sell it, trade it or give it away-  in any case even if they keep it, it still needs power to work-

it would cost Nintendo very little to include it

Finally 3DS a deadly mistake committed, now PSV a winner will be!

I just ordered it with my 3DS XL. Came in the same Amazon delivery. No big deal.

Since I hate having too much electronic waste flying around the house, I approve of this practice. Once the mini USB is the standard charger for phones, I hope Smartphone producers will adopt this example.

I wouldn't mind that.

Look at gameboy still cna play cause it has AAA batteries.

3DS 20 years from now wont have a suitable battery pack but the god old AAA battery will still be around.

I doubt it. Making a 3rd party batteries in the future will be common. People make replacement batteries, that are pre-ready for GB/NES/GEN and SNES carts now.

Not only that, but it the 3DS will still technically be playable with an adapter. You just won't be able to walk away from a power outlet with it.

Damn it, I was hoping they wouldn't start doing this, at least in NA. They should at the very least use micro USB then...

This is what I came into this thread to say. Nintendo should make all new iterations of it's devices that run on batteries to be whatever the most popular standard is at the time, which is mini/micro USB at the moment. I wish I could use the same adapter to charge my 3DS and Wii U, or even a generic USB cable to charge it from my laptop.

3rd parties have made those. I have USB cables for my wii u gamepad and GBASP/DSLite/3DS/XL when needed.

But I want them to come straight from Nintendo.
