Per the Week ending Nov 8  per VG Charts global lifetime software sales chart, the Xbox 360 passed the Wii in retail software sales 

Xbox 360:  882.6 million +-

Wii:  881.7 million +-

PS3: 842.7 million +-

considering these numbers don t include digital sales, I imagine the xb360 passed the Wii months ago as I m sure both the xb360 and ps3 sold/sell far more thru their online networks -  maybe the PS3 has already passed the Wii too if digital were included -  does anyone have aprox digital sales percentages for any of the 3 consoles

i just thought these numbers were interesting as I doubt too many people would think this could have happened back when the Wii was selling so well-  I don t understand why Nintendo dropped support of the Wii so completely when they did -  with just a little more software support the Wii could have sold a lot more software the last few years and helped offset the lag in Wii U sales -  I understand they want their customer base to move to their newest console but looking at both the PS4 and now the Xbox1, the shift will happen with the right value proposition and confidence in the future of the respective consoles 

this is prob my 1st or 2nd thread so I m not sure I credited the numbers properly but they are all from VG charts and they are aprox.

So? Hardly a difference.

Wouldn't doubt it, the wii fell like a tank after its glory years but games like TitanFall and Destiny are still coming out for the 360/ps3

Pretty amazing for a console in third place.. Should get some millions more with those cross gen games still coming.. Far Cry, Shadows of Mordor etc

Finally. And I think everyone saw this coming, even when the Wii was doing well. The attach rate on the console was abysmal as most people that bought it just bought it for WiiSports and a few casual exercise and dance games.

And in regards to Nintendo dropping support...that's why, man. When your new consumer base doesn't get how the whole "buy games for that $249 console) works, you get a lot of flops. Nintendo hoped these blue ocean gamers would gravitate to Mario and Zelda, but instead they ended up on Farmville and Angry Birds. Fickle bunch, really.

Both xb360 and ps3 have made up a lot of ground with the Wii over the last 2+- years 

although there is not a lot of difference today re lifetime total retail software sales among the 3  it won t stay that way for long as both are outselling the Wii software sales by millions a week prob they the holidays at least 

Amazing number for amazing console.
360 is the best console of 7° gen, imho.
But, the best game of this gen is on Wii (Super Mario Galaxy 2).

I said Home only, with the DS, the best game of this gen is Pokémon Platinum.

I said new game only. With remake, best game is Super Mario 64 DS.
