Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

DICE have their offices only a short walk from where I'm sitting right now!

Go tell them to hurry up on Mirror's Edge 2

Lol, okay!

I also have Paradox Interactive's offices only a couple of blocks down, but we already got Europa Universalis IV!

#44 Hint: Lord of sheep, this character took down a big threat.

Is #44 Catherine?

Nope, sorry.

Hint 2: The enemies in this game are a bit grim.

And my #44:

Mass Effect 2 - Absolutely loved this game, a good choice for many I'd expect!

Hint for #43: Uncle! Jade! Uncle!

Wolfenstein 3D

  • System: Mac
  • Year: 1994
  • Rank last year: New (*)

Maybe the most important game in the First-person shooter genre, Wolfenstein 3D is also still one of the most fun ones. Fun because it's so bizarre and basic. There is little sotry in the game, but the player is a prisoner who escapes, and goes on to kill Nazi-leader Hitler. On the way, there's a slew of Nazi soldiers, officers, scientists and even dogs to be killed. Naturally, such a game caused some deal of controversy when it came out. Particularly in Germany, where it was banned because every outing of Nazi-related symbolism is forbidden by law. This game even features the anthem of the Nazi party, the Horst-Wessel-Lied, as it's theme song besides the slew of swastikas and Hitler imagery. Nintendo made significant changes to the game, removing basically every connection to the Nazi party.

I however, had the Mac version, which was released a couple years later and features everything like it was meant to be. This had a large impact on my young self and I became very interested in the history of World War II. I never finished the game though, but not for the lack of trying, and it is crystal clear to me why this game is of such monumental importance.

Game #43

This game once began development using the 'Die Hard' license and the end product still shows it. This deal however fell apart, and the console maker who developed it released it under a different name and theme in the arcades before eventually releasing a port of it on their failing console.
