Maybe the most important game in the First-person shooter genre, Wolfenstein 3D is also still one of the most fun ones. Fun because it's so bizarre and basic. There is little sotry in the game, but the player is a prisoner who escapes, and goes on to kill Nazi-leader Hitler. On the way, there's a slew of Nazi soldiers, officers, scientists and even dogs to be killed. Naturally, such a game caused some deal of controversy when it came out. Particularly in Germany, where it was banned because every outing of Nazi-related symbolism is forbidden by law. This game even features the anthem of the Nazi party, the Horst-Wessel-Lied, as it's theme song besides the slew of swastikas and Hitler imagery. Nintendo made significant changes to the game, removing basically every connection to the Nazi party.
I however, had the Mac version, which was released a couple years later and features everything like it was meant to be. This had a large impact on my young self and I became very interested in the history of World War II. I never finished the game though, but not for the lack of trying, and it is crystal clear to me why this game is of such monumental importance.
