#45 - Super Punch Out!!

In real life I hate boxing but thankfully Super Punch Out!! is nothing like real boxing. Most of the fighter you encounter have little regard for the rules of boxing (as shown by the image to the left. Super Punch Out!! is the kind of game you play over and over again, at first because you get your ass kicked and later when you've figured everyone's patterns because you want to get a better time.

While the formula differs from the original and the Wii version, I really liked the concept of always having your super meter full as long as you don't get hit.

Anyone who wants to try out to Punch Out series should try this game out, it's the easiest of the bunch and still holds up well today (the Wii game is fantastic too!).

#44 Hint: An alternate title could have been Ninja Simulator since the gameplay captured what being a ninja must have been like better than most games.

You scared me a bit at first. I was thinking of that horrible Wii game on which you have to meditate IRL and do some stupid Ninja things with the Wiimote. Ninja Simulator indeed xD

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

guessed by mZuzek

Mario earned his racing stripes on the SNES and N64, but it wasn’t until Mario Kart: Double Dash!! on Gamecube that Nintendo's mascot racer unlocked its full potential. Double Dash is the fourth Mario Kart game, but the first to feature two characters per cart: one to drive, one to use items. Not only does this system of two interchangeable characters make the game insanely perfect, but it introduces a cooperative mode previously unseen in Mario Kart. Players can choose from 20 playable characters, 11 of whom are new to the series. Each character has also been given a unique special item, like Mario’s fireballs or Donkey Kong’s giant banana. The only weakness in Double Dash is its battle arenas, which never quite match those in Mario Kart 64.

My 45 is Persona 3 which I played on the PSP. I am still waiting to own a system able to play Persona 4 as I heard only good things about it.

Number 44 is kind of a brilliant RTS on an unexpected system.

#44 - An epic game with 4 heroes. Fighting aliens in their mad world.

#44 - Gears Of War. I though this one would be easy, but apparently not

Number 45: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

I have always been fascinated by dinosaurs, as far back as I can remember and Turok was terrifying and awesome all at once. The sounds the beast made, their hulking appearance and the clinging atmosphere was enough to keep me glued to the TV for hours.
It featured some pretty impressive stealth gameplay for its time and sneaking around and timing a perfect headshot with a bow and arrow was fantastic!
The level design was pretty straightforward as far as FPS go but it featured a lot of outdoors environments, which was not very common in this genre back then.
The controls were super tight and the hushed, drum-driven music matched your pulse perfectly as you crept about looking for fresh prey, or potentially stumbled into something that made you its prey.

Awesome game and one of my favourite N64 titles, this was also a great showcase for the N64's somewhat haphazard controller, along with Goldeneye 64 which released later in the same year, the surprisingly clever Z-trigger underneath and soft analogue stick were made for titles like this.
