Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire
The lesser of a few Star Wars games on the list, Rebel Assault II is a treasure cove of memorable Star Wars-quites. To me at least, because I played it so many times. The first game I had and played on a personal computer, my step-father brought it home together with a Macintosh computer which would be our very first PC. The game was also my first experience with the Star Wars universe, and I was hooked ever since, even to this day. Though the previous games in my list are half included for their sentemental and nostalgic value, Rebel Assault II actually belongs here. It is a great game!
The game is a rail-shooter, with various styles of gameplay. There are several flying levels, racing levels and shooting levels both in the third and first person. Some of these levels get quite intense with a ton of enemies on screen or obstacles to avoid. The variety never makes the game boring and on top of that it features a nice, fitting Star Wars-style side-story played out through live-action cutscenes. If I say here, in my house at any random time, the phrase "Imperial bucketheads", the responds from someone will be: "Just follow my lead, and do as I say."
Game #46
This game was initially developed by a Japanese indie developer, but was bought, rebranded into their own image and published by a company (the company that inspired this developer in the first place) known for it's simulation games back when they had a lot more different series rather than just the city-builder and life-Simulator they have now.

Woah, now there's a game I had forgotten about! (not that it would have made my list anyways) |
It was. I must admit though, it's been a very long time since I played it, but the memories are just too good to ignore. I'm not sure if it would hold up for me if I played it, but I'm also not sure if I want to try. Maybe I'll ruin a good memory .

Damn, I have no idea. I can tell you're talking about Maxis, so here's the super random guess: SimAnt? |
Maxis is definitely correct, was probably an easy hint. As far as I know today they only have SimCity and The Sims left in the 'Sim' series, but I remember when they had everything.
It's not SimAnt though...
It's SimTower.

C'mon, that's a pretty shitty hint
Anyway, here's my next game:
#46: Burnout Paradise (Criterion Games, 2008) - PC (also available on PS3 and Xbox 360)
I've been familiar with the series ever since I laid my eyes on Burnout 3 via a trailer or something. I fell in love with the game, but didn't have a PS2 back then, but when I got one, I made sure to get Burnout Revenge (which was the latest Burnout). I'd later get Dominator as well, but it was Paradise that wowed me the most (even though Revenge and 3 gave me some amazing multiplayer sessions).
I believe it was two things: first of all, they got rid of boring modes from previous games: Crash, Traffic Attack from Revenge, etc. It was just Races, Road Rage, Stunt Run, Time Attacks and Marked Man. While I wasn't a fan of Stunt Runs, everything else was incredibly fun. Races and Road Rages don't need introduction and Marked Man had some intense shit by the time you got to the end, with five, six cars trying to take you down. And I usually despise Time Attacks, but thanks to the open-worlded nature of the game, I could make whatever route I wished, which was awesome.
Ah yes, the open-world... I thought it was MUCH better than the menus of previous games, and it really contributed to the WOW factor. Sadly, there was no split-screen multiplayer, which is pretty stupid for a racing game... oh well, it's still my favorite racing game ever (spoiler, there are no more racers on the list).
It's been SIX YEARS, and no sign of a brand new Burnout... Need for Speed Most Wanted was kinda similar, but it's not the same... for one thing, races have a determined route, which is lame.
#45 hint: A WHOLE NEW WORLD
...oh yeah, there were also motorcycles... who gives a fuck?
#47. World Series Baseball 2 (Sega Saturn)
Probably the only traditional baseball game I have ever really loved. What I really enjoyed about this game is it was a fucking blast to play whether you were playing alone or solo. A unique pick up and play ability that did not wear thin as you became good at the game. It also AFAIK introduced some cool elements to videogame baseball like the 7th inning stretch and it was the first baseball game I can remember using player's nicknames. It was a shame to see the franchise fall on such rough times in the 6th generation, but at least they did not slap its name on those travesty 2k baseball turds.
lord_of_flood said: #47 - Custom Robo: One of Nintendo's more niche series, though it's one I rather enjoy. The idea of the game is fighting with 1 foot tall robos that you can customize with different bodies, guns, bombs, pods, and leg parts that all change up how you play. Each part is quite different from one another and has a different effect on the way you play with that combination of parts. It really gets my inner child going, as it's all about putting parts together in different combinations in order to have entirely new ways to play the game. Sure, the story is kind of half-baked, but the core robot fighting is a lot of fun. Hint for #46 - This song appeared in the game. Also, there is an anime series that only exists within the universe of this game, and its three main characters are Strawberry, Blueberry, and Cranberry. |
Sad no one guessed my #46...
#46 - No More Heroes: A game that just oozes with a strange sense of style, this is probably one of the more underrated games on the Wii. Killing things feels oddly good in this game, as the motion-controlled finishers actually make things feel more visceral. I'm not really sure the game would work nearly as well without them. It can get rather demented at times, both humorously and... not so humorously (seriously, the final boss is pretty screwed up). Also, lightsabers.
Hint for #45 - You can play as two characters in this 2D action game: one is an amnesiac ninja and the other is a princess possessed by the spirit of a foul swordsman. The spectacular art style in this game easily makes it one of the most visually appealing games on the Wii/any last generation console.
