The rest of the world has been missing out on this game. To put it simple, Astérix is a strategy game in the vain of the well-known Total War series, based on the board game 'Risk'. The objective is, to conquer the rest of the map, which in this game is understandably, Gaul (France).
The player is that small Gallic village that's so resitant to the Roman overlords in Gaul. Each turn you'll get new men (or rather, new pots of 'Magic Potion') to dispurse among your regions, as do the Romans. You can take a sample of those men from any region to attack an adjacent Roman region. The outcome is determined by a roll of the dice taking into account the strength of the attackers as well as that of the defenders. Some regions include a mini-game. To conquer them, the must complete a small platforming level or some sort of mini-game. The light-heartedness of this game shines through, and it's simple mechanics just work. It's also the only console game a good PC-only gaming friend of mine, ever wants to play!
