That doesn't mean to weaken.  The character's states aren't altered due to damage.  In soul Calibur IV, you are weakened when your armor is damaged.  In most other fighting games, taking damage doesn't change your characters stats, so it is not a weakening.  It is a scoring system.

In smash brothers, I guess you can say it is a weakening, since you lose weight and are increasingly at danger of flying off the stage at a million miles at hour with the more damage you take.

In other fighting games, and smash included, to a degree, it's all strictly a numbers game.  Strictly numbers.

Some people are really competitive, by the way.

You can be pedantic about the word "weaken" but the point remains.

In regular fighters,  every non-KO hit affects the HP gauge (discounting those which are perfectly blocked), which leads the end of the match. So every hit, no matter how minor, is actively working towards the end goal. If you miss a KO, the opponent is still close to being KO'd.

In Smash Bros. every non-KO hit makes the opponent easier to KO. So every hit, no matter how minor, is actively working towards the end goal. If you miss a KO, the opponent is still closer to being KO'd.

In PSASBR, every non-KO hit increases your special gauge (or decreases the opponent's). So every hit, no matter how minor, is notw passively working towards the end goal. If you miss a KO, the opponent is no longer close to being KO'd.

That is not true.  In 2D fighters specifically, when you have a super combo, if your health is at 1, many of these supers will not kill you until the final hit.  If you are able to break free of one of these supers, the game is not over, which can and does lead to a match turning out differently.

If I have one point of health, and you have 5, if we're playing Marvel Vs. Capcom, for example, and you do venom web, I will let you hit me with it.  Why? Because only the last hit kills.  Letting someone hit you that way is an easy set-up, to kill the character.  Venom web is a terrible attack, since you can tag out during the active frames anyway, but...  What you say isn't true, and because of that, I use it to my advantage for opening up people's defenses.  Though, honestly, it's just a fun little bait.  You hit me with venom web, and yet, you still die.  Despite having more health. Despite hitting me 1st.

I'm not even going to bring up chip damage, since I think you know about it, but failed to mention it.

And, what about the IF.. That's a small IF.  every attack builds your super meter, which is brining you closer to your goal.  That's why you can't camp out by yourself, while someone else is getting beat on all day.  Just don't miss.

There are consequenses for missing in every fighter.

You've managed to dial pedantry up to 11/10.

If only the final hit deals the damage, then technically you have missed. But the opponent is still 1HP away from death, a minor attack could end the game.

The scenario you've setup can be equally applied to an attacker using any attack that misses, then the opponent hits them while their defence is down.

Chip damage also allows for a blocked attack to still do minor damage, bringing the opponent's HP closer to 0, thus actively working towards the match end goal.

I agree that there are consequences for missing in every fighter. I never said otherwise.

oh to be a memorable character it need to sell a ton ? You know those 3 but some people might not know them same for a sony fan knowing characters and like them and you dont know them , first time i saw king dedede and rosalina was in a stream about smash last E3 , wii fit girl is not what i call a memorable character.

Rosalina... Not seen intill last E3? You definitely dont play Nintendo games, everybody knows her from Galaxy Games and MKWii. Even people who dont play nintendo games know her!!!!!!!

Wii Fit Trainer is very memorable. She helped casuals lose weight, over 20mil of them, even if it was just 1lb.

Not knowing King Dedede isnt so bad but he is definitely more popular than many other characters in the gaming industry.

I don't understand how Smash affect PS All Stars? Anyways, Sony would be silly to waste their money on developing another PS All stars game.

What exactly is this thread about?

I am just going to assume that it is about Sony not having as many as eight memorable characters in which case I have to agree.

they can always go nintendo route and put characters like the WII fit girl, king dedede , rosalina , etc

But that's my point: Sony lacks such characters.

Come on, man. The three characters you named appear in over 100 million sold copies. At that point it's basically impossible to make an argument that they are hardly known.

Do Nintendo fans really want Wii Fit girl and the likes? I know Sony fans want Wander more than Nintendo fans want her. Sony has a lot of characters (with a lot of variety too) to tap into. It's a shame that they didn't.

with the way the console is selling right now I think a sequel in the future is a pretty good bet

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I dont know, maybe you should ask the thousands of fans that hated it. But seriously its a ba balance for competitive play. Many flawed reasons in it really. I mean you can do all this work, miss a super and practically the entire battle (for you) is pointless is just one example

Come on, dude. You should know better than that. There is no way you can make this claim considering that a) the game sold only around 1m, b) many actually liked them (I know I did), and c) some of the posts you see on different sites are from the same people. You simply can't know just how many had a problem with them or even if the people who did complain about them even played the game (and don't tell me you haven't noticed people pretending to have played a game only as an excuse to trash it).

-Spam removed, spambot clearly doesn't care about Smash Bros or PS Allstars Battle Royale-

Cant find the article but it was a little after the release, it was about a community trying to make a competitive scene, and many players practically said its a bad idea do to character balance and especially te mechanics.

Not saying its a bad game in the sense its unplayable, i played the game on vita for a little while, and it does seem fun. immore talking on a competitive level like most fighters are or at least try to be :)

Yeah, I get that but my problem is simply with one word: thousands. It could have been hundreds or hundreds of thousands. Just say many. I know it sounds stupid to complain about something so insignificant. It's just a pet peeve of mine. If you don't have concreet evidence, don't try to come up with a number.

Yeah, i got no evidence (át least concrete ones), so my bad. It couldliterally be any number, i guess i should say by my experience with people who own the game, many have complaint about it and wished Superbot just literally copy smash.

Not trying to start nothing, hope this doesn't upset you.
