Forums - Sales - NA Lost Odyssey selling better?

Dont get me wrong i love me some j-rpg's but I somewhat hope this game fails. Not because it's a bad game, but i despise the fact that MS basically bought the 2 best things japan has to offer as far as games are concerned. Sakaguchi for his creative ideas and Nobou for his music. Had sony or nintendo done this id be somewhat more understanding as their consoles have other good rpg's to compliment the "AAA" one's that mistwalker will create. Flame sheield up...

I'm not sure I understand your logic. The 360 right now has what is pretty much unarguably the best RPG line up on the 3 consoles. And that's not likely to change until some of the PS3's big hitters like FFXIII comes out. But either way, the 360 is now a proven RPG system, so it's a bit unfair to say that.

As far as buying Sakaguchi, the man was thrown out by Square (for his financial debacle Spirits Within). In Japanese business culture, a fuck up like that generally gets you black listed, and if your a senior guy like he was, a desk job with no power until retirement. The guy wanted to make games, MS funding made it possible. It's not MS's fault Sony and Nintendo didn't actively pursue the guy. As far as Nobuo Uematsu goes, he's worked with Sakaguchi for decades, it's no surprise he's chosen to continue working with him. Plus, isn't he still technically at Square-Enix?

They have lots of ads on TV and it looks good. It should sell best in America and then maybe Europe.

I disagree. The first disc was fantastic in every way, but it starting to become just good since Ive beaten the 2nd and 3rd disc.

The game is by no means perfect, and there are some niggling story and gameplay issues by fourth disc that make you realize it COULD have been a 9.8 kinda game, but really comes up about 8.9 - 9.1

If I had to rank it among final fantasies, FFIV and FFVI were superior, but to me LO is at least equal to FFVII (it's story is weaker than LO, but what a technical wonder for its time), and better than all the FF's since then.  Probably not better than Xenogears PS1, and I have this crazy weakness for the Valkyrie Profile games

There's no doubt in my mind that LO is the best current RPG out on the next gen systems.  I'm definitely looking forward to some of the upcoming PS3 rpg exclusives, but there's still a looong wait there :/

If you look at first and second week sales, with Lost Odyssey vs. Blue Dragon, it looks like Lost Odyssey will definitely outsell Blue Dragon (which is around 460,000 right now).

Blue Dragon had the better opening week in Japan, but look at North America & Europe--Lost Odyssey dominated compared to. Which it should because LO is a 10x better game than BlueD IMO.

Overall, I expect Lost Odyssey to sell around 600,000-650,000 lifetime.

Only 5k drop from it's second week to third week in NA. Very good sign.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

lost odyssey will be at the 1 million mark by march of 2009, its almost at 700k now. so another 300k in like 8 months , not a far off mark i say. i think it will hit the 1 million before that because m$ will drop the price to $39.99 around sept i say.

Fortunately, Lost Odyssey has had some decent legs in the US. It looks like it'll easily break 800k. The big question is how well VGC can track it once it drops off of the X360 Top 50 list..It has an outside (and I mean very outside) shot at 1m. The Best Price/Platinum edition in Japan could do well if it was released in tandem with either IU or ToV, as Blue Dragon sold around ~10k doing that.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
