Forums - Microsoft - Halo: MCC review thread! UPDATE: Reviews incoming - 87 metascore so far

I guess Halo's gameplay isn't as top-notch as it was when they released back in the 2000's. We're in 2014, standards change.
That may explain the differences with reviews of TLOU:R. Perharps you got your expectations too high. Don't get upset though, it'll sell good anyway.

*smh* get back on topic

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Yeah, TLOU is a good game for sure. But still probably the most overrated of all time because it doesn't even deserve to scratch a "best games ever made" list let alone come in #1 like it does by most young gamers today. It just shows how the generation that was raised on COD games has far lower expectations as to what a great game is. Fun and creative gameplay doesn't matter to them much anymore.

COD generation? Um Halo started that trend duh.Funny mention gameplay does not matter but praise Halo which succeeds.on dude bro popularity and not gameplay.I will end this here,I go back to the NES so I have played my share of  great games from SMB3,to Chrono Trigger,to FF7,to Ico and now TLoU and it is one of the greatest games created based on narrative and design.

disappointing

how does a one year old rmk of a 95 game gets a solid 95, while a remaster + rmk of 4 games in one (97, 95, 94 and 87) just gets an 87?

should they just left halo 4 out of the collection to get better score, or what the fuck do they try to imply?

Maybe they are implying that quantity does not equal quality.

I really don't get how a huge collection of 4 games all with a fresh coat of paint and new features, of which the lowest scoring game was an 87, only gets an 87. Especially with TLOU:R getting a 95 despite barely being any different than the original that released a year before it. I swear some of these reviewers are just way too biased against MS right now. This is the third great X1 game in a row that has been too harshly reviewed. You'd think critics would be grateful that X1 is actually delivering some great exclusives while PS4 has nothing to offer there.

TLOU:R got a 95 because it was treated like it was a cross gen release, which makes sense, given it was functionally just a late GOTY port.

The MCC on the other hand is being treated like all collection; a value proposition. They've always struggled to get far past the 90 mark. When accounting for the harsher treatment of 8th gen only titles, 87 makes sense.

Critics aren't biased towards anyone. Sony's 8th gen only titles have received just as much flack as MS's ones. This harsher scale has been placed on everyone.

Not on Nintendo apparently...

Yeah, because Ninetndo is making amazing GAMEPLAY that thank god most critics still can't deny, hard as they may try. And I don't think Nintendo has it nearly as bad right now as MS as far as bias in the industry goes. Everyone just wants to dump on MS right now for some reason (probably cause the last few years of the 360 sucked as far as their support). And I've dumped on MS myself, like most of the 6th and 7th gens where their game delivery paled in comparison to PS2/PS3. But right now they're killing PS4 in that area.

I dunno. I guess the older games don't hold up as well to today's FPS standards. But when I look at Half Life 2 it still holds up really well, I assumed the same would be true for Halo.

People upset over 87 need to step away from gaming a bit Imo. Also what's with the childish console war be going on here? Seriously give it up.

wtf have this to do with console wars?

btw: gtaV on next gen will get the same score, or even better one (because of first person and the added things)

edit:
god of war #94
god of war 2 #93
god of war 3 #92
god of war collection #91

and they just upped the resolution and didnt remaster anything

The MCC is there and you can compare the evolution of the gameplay... you will see how Halo 3 and Halo 4 play way better and feel more fresh when compared with Halo and Halo 2.

I prefer Halo 3 over Halo 4 but in terms of gameplay Halo 4 is more fresh.

Halo started the trend of quality FPS's going mainstream. COD on the other hand started the trend of generic FPS's going mainstream. Big difference. Anyways, TLOU is a million times the game that any COD game is, so I'm not saying it isn't. Just that I can see how the generation that grew up on COD might think TLOU is the best game ever because it is if you're using COD-like games as a comparison.
