Xbox is still going strong in Australia, i would probably say its more popular and competitive here then in mainland Europe where the playstation brand is so strong. Also Australia IMO is on the rise for Video game consoles, it may never be a big territory in comparision to the UK but its a nice one to have

While that may be true, Microsoft Xbox's main focus has primarily been US. As for region loyalty, battleground states change all the time. I don't think they are reliable. Call me a skeptic.

LOL, thats the problem with MS....... they ONLY focus on US and UK most of the time. If they actually put that much time and money in other places (excluding japan) they can create a world wide brand (minus japan lol) similar to that of PS

The issue is, focusing on key regions is a lot easier and more cost-effective then trying to play the WW game. Sony has not only molded PS to cater WW but also in some ways molded WW to expect PS.
In other words, to become a world wide brand in gaming with Xbox in the same vein as PlayStation would be orders of magnitude harder for Microsoft Xbox, we are talking times 10n , even with their amount of money and time.
Consider, in an ideal world where the two brands could equally coexist, Xbox would still have to play on a WW field defined by PlayStation, the homecourt advantage if you will. In the real world, competition makes it harder.
If we break it down to brass tacks, Xbox is only relevant at all in the console space because 360 was able to dominate UK and US, two of the most important regions in gaming, which it was only able to do because of a chink in the armor that Sony allowed with the PS3.
If PS3 sold at launch and price parity, it might be close but when you compare PS2 vs XB then it swings in PS's favor again. OFC this is pseudohistory, but it just goes to show how important the 360 was to defining the brand, and how hard it is to expand.
Yes, I agree that Xbox should strive to be WW but realistically US + UK, is a lot more feasible right now, and even those regions are in jeopardy.
