Forums - Microsoft - So I finally went on amazon.com, the XBO is $275-$350!?

My immediate response was, well of course it's selling well it's down $150 - $225 in price since launch, as long as you want assassins creed 4 & 5, that's like the PS4 being sold for $300 with Far Cry 4 bundled in. I always ignore hourly sales posts so I just assumed it was a $449 bundle.

With Sunset overdrive, COD and the Master Chief collection this is the Xbox ones biggest fortnight of the year, the price has been cut substatianlly, how are we meant to have a proper discussion when all I see in the post is "xbox one is gonna retake US and the UK by the end of 2015 homies"

I can't help but feel the xbox division didn't need to do a price cut of this magnitude at this early stage, the line up this holiday is strong a $400 dollar bundle matches the PS4, so my second gut feeling was this seems like a mistake.

So please enough arguements about who is going to win the sales this holiday, I'm really curious what you think of Microsofts strategy to undercut the PS4 price to drive sales?

The cheapest Xbone is 349.99 new from amazon. You are seeing used and from other sellers.

So you're saying I didn't look at the Amazon page closely enough... I'm really resisting not making fun considering the irony of the situation

Yh its kinda funny. "officially" the cheapest XB1 is $350 with a game. Which puts it at a real price of $290 if you were going to buy that game anyways. "unofficially" you can get the XB1 for as low as $329 with two games. Or as low as $250 with a game if yo trade in your 360 and get this, or PS3.

MS needed to do this. Cause history has shown that even bundling a good game isn't enough to make it offset the sales advantage the PS4 has had all year. As MS said themselves, they are just gonna go in and compete. This is exactly what they need to do to compete. So they at least be given some credit for having the balls to do it.

Besides, if the standalone console cost them just under $380 to make, then biting ~$100 isn't that bad. They can make that back inside a year if those gamers buy at least 4 games and or an XBL subscription. Even easier to make back if they are buying extra accessories.

And contrary to what some may think, sony could just as easily match them in price, but they don't need to. Sony/retailers will offer some deals for the PS4, but sony will probably take a wait and see approach. They will want to see just how much of an impact this price drop has for the XB1 and if its worth them responding or not.

The interesting thing about the hourlies right now is that only one Xb one sku is ahead of PS4 as of now.

Will be interesting to see what happens when the monthly gets updated for November.

That is interesting. While I think X1 will take November, I'm starting to wonder if these bundles will actually have legs, or if they're only good for a short term injection. People seem to want the SO bundle most, less for the game and more for the white SKU. But it's super rare. The game itself didn't have any staying power at all.

Going from 499 to 349 with bundled games.. Is a steepish drop

Yeah, it was cunning of MS to attach Sunset Overdrive to a white sku. It will give SO a feel of high sales, even though, as you say it's the white console people were after. A pity the official bundle won't count towards NPD sales for SO. It's possible SO might be out of the top 10 for NPD in Oct and Nov if a large proportion of the game's sales are in the white bundle. But NPD will be a good indicator of the game's appeal without the helping hand of the white bundle. I'd like SO to do well.

Whats funny about the amazon hourly or daily stuff... is that I think people were just jumping the gun.

If a new sku is released, hell 2 or 3 of them. then it only makes sense that that sku sells more than the ps4 hourly or even daily. But if after a week those skus crash then it means what just happened was a temporal spike. The monthly amazon chart will be the deciding factor. If for the month the top selling ps4 sku is considerably higher than the top selling XB1 sku then it would mean that the PS4 could still take november.

If the top selling PS4 sku is at #6 (eg) and all the XB1 skus are within #8-#14 then that could mean the XB1 outsold the PS4 for november. At least as far as amazon is concerned.

Sony are now selling their bundles in the UK and most of Europe at EXACTLY the same price as the Xbox One.

MS have Big hitting exclusives going into the holidays, Sony does not.

Sony won't and can't afford to go much lower they are in financial trouble with yet more billion loses just announced and the money to prop up their loss making departments, Smartphones etc has to come from somewhere.

MS can afford to go low and the FACT is Sony would go even lower if they were a successful money making company like MS.
