Forums - Microsoft - So I finally went on amazon.com, the XBO is $275-$350!?

If Sony ever became a successful money making company like MS instead of a constantly loss making company then they would drop their prices even lower than MS.

Just accept the facts.

Going from 499 to 349 with bundled games.. Is a steepish drop

This is an old debate, but the price of the XB1 has only dropped $50 since launch.

The XB1 with Kinect (launch configuration) is $449.  $50 off or you can buy the AC bundle with Kinect for the same price.

A person could argue (not realistically) that it is the software being discounted, not the system.

But, either way, the system is available in multiple configurations that can go as low as $349(No Kinect), but that system only dropped $50 since it's launch as well.

It is near the end of the end....

Sony are now selling their bundles in the UK and most of Europe at EXACTLY the same price as the Xbox One.

MS have Big hitting exclusives going into the holidays, Sony does not.

Sony won't and can't afford to go much lower they are in financial trouble with yet more billion loses just announced and the money to prop up their loss making departments, Smartphones etc has to come from somewhere.

MS can afford to go low and the FACT is Sony would go even lower if they were a successful money making company like MS.

Your facts are wrong. It doesn't work that way. But I might as well be talking to a wall, so the joke is on me.

  • Sony PS4 = ~$370 (this is teh maximum it probably costs sony now to make if they are selling them at a profit, whch they are)
  • For every publsihed game on a platform, the dev Pub/dev gets $30, platform holder $15, retailer $15.
  • If a game is bundled with the console, teh retailer gets nothing from that game. The platform holder still has to give the pub their $30 though.
  • So, Sony PS4 + bundled third party game = $400.
Take note, consoles don't primarily make their money from selling the console.

semantics my friend. I think peopel underate just how important that sticker price is in the mass market. It doesn't matter if the price has only really dropped by $50. What matters is that at $500 with kinect and then at $400 without kinect, consmers still didn't see a lot of value in the console. At $350 with a game, is a price drop. Cause the XB1 will now be markete as "startig from $349".

That $349 price point is all the average consumer cares about. And MS knows it. What was removed or added to the box is irrelevant. Its a new and lower price for the console.

"I'm really curious what you think of Microsofts strategy to undercut the PS4 price to drive sales?"

There's nothing to know here, it's pretty simple, Microsoft can't compete against PS4 at the same price in US so they did some changes in the process. US is the only possible country to make a turnaround, well, maybe UK.

ms needs to produce more of those white x1 bundles.
they seem to be very popular, but I don't know why they didn't foresee their popularity and that irks me lol.

I agree with you 100%.  The effective price is $349.  But, that has nothing to do with the original comment.  People don't care what price a system was launched at.  They only care what they pay for it and what they get.  So, comparing a completely different models and saying they dropped the price is just innacurate.  That's like comparing(here comes the car analogy) a Chevy Tahoe to a Cadillac Escalade.  They essentially are identical in their general features, but in the end they are not the same.  The Escalade will have a number of features that are not on the Tahoe.  The Escalade will cost $10-20,000 more. So, do you quote the price of the Escalade or the Tahoe when saying the price has changed?

Ok guess I can agree with you. You are right.

Fun note:

The XB1 has only dropped its price by $50 from $500 since launch. You can now get an XB1 for $349.99. Its funny how they are both true yet actually mean two very different things.

I actually say the XB1 with Kinect dropped from $500 to $450 since launch. The XB1 without Kinect dropped from $400 to $350 since launch. Sure the launch dates were different, but who cares.

MS should be doing this. MS should have done this from the start. They should have gone for the jugular.  Know way Sony could have been able to compete had MS really gone for the kill from the beginning rather than being profitable from the beginning.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Can someone explain why people are buying the standard console for $349?? It is sitting at #21 right now.. WHY would anyone buy this over the Assassins Bundles??? (The $349 one).. Why not get free games???? I don't get it..
