Forums - Gaming Discussion - Activision: Destiny has over 9.5 million registered users and Development has Begun on Destiny 2, Expecting COD AW to be Biggest Game of the Year

I think you're likely both correct.

Activision would be including people who linked their PSN and Xbox Live accounts to Bungie - thats everyone that played the Alpha and Beta.

Then you'd have multiple players on consoles, multiple traded in copies etc.

If the sold numbers were incredible, they'd just have told us those instead.

That doens't makes sense... if they use PSN/XBL liked to Bungie you have ~5 million users lol

It is all registered XBL/PSN to Destiny's servers... nothing related to Bungie's accounts.

The latestes registered Bungie.net account (http://www.bungie.net/en/Profile/254/8546057) never liked any PSN or XBL account.

i hope the next destiny has an actually story not the long time ago this happen, but unfortunately i cannot tell you this at the moment type story. that killed the game. the only fun part was playing with other people.

I said included, not exclusively.

In other words, they would be added to those who simply purchased the game, played a friends game, rented the game etc.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Damn, dodged that bullet. So much for the long term support...

I am glad i didn't fallen for the hype.

Yeap... unique PSN/XBL that played the game... rented, family sharing, etc... all add to the vale... I'm using 1.5 million for these cases.

But to be registered you need to be created at least one characters with your PSN/XBL account.

Bungie.net account are not related to that.

Ultimately the only sure thing is there must be a substantial difference between sold copies and 'registered users' or they'd just have told us the sales numbers!

is that ur thought, or did activision said that?

because the bungie accounts are linked to xbl or psn accounts. u can even use ur xbl or psn to log in.
and as u can play the game without an bungie account?, ofc there could be more unique destiny players, than overall bungie accounts

You can link you Bungie account to Facebook too... it is not PSN/XBL exclusive.

There are ~8.5m Bungie accounts... a lot not linked to any PSN/XBL.

To play without an bungie account you need just turn the game and play it lol

9.5m are the number of players registered to Destiny's servers... not Bungie's accounts... that means if you bought the game, played it, traded it, and other guy bought it again... it will count like two registered users and only one copy sold... same for "family" or friend sharing... one copy can have two or three guys playing.

Said that... 1.5m for multiples accounts is a lot... so I estimate ~8m sales right now.

thats what i mean. so it only matters, if beta accounts are still count in that 9.5m figure, or not.
but it doenst matter if there a 8.5m bungie accounts or more, or less.

btw: destiny grossed (non gaap base) 500m in its first month
activsion net revenue (gaap base) on current gen for this quarter 109m last gen 169m :O

Apparently copy and paste is easy as all hell

hopefully this will end those stupid comments on "Destiny costed 500 million" to make. great sales and great game. hopefully the next one will be even bigger and better.

Given the content of this game I think it being the most successful new IP is a shame, really. I don't say it's a bad game but it's definitely light on content. Many games are better than Destiny but don't get that sales.
Hype is a big factor nowadays than it was last gen and many numbers from current gen show us exactly this.
