Forums - Sony - Sony’s biggest PS4 update yet has been a complete disaster - BGR

It has happen to me once so far. Pretty annoying but not disastrous as that article claims.

I would say that most gamers are more than smart enough to get past this problem(just unplug it and plug it back in).  Unfortunately, the few that can't will act like their whole life has been ruined by this or just never stop talking about it.

I haven't really seen anyone say that this has happened more than the one time anyway...

It is near the end of the end....

my PS4 freezed yesterday on Rest mode but i just turned it off and on and everything was OK, and since then i havent had such a problem again... it seems im the luckiest PS user since everytime one of this problems with updates happen im never affected, this is the first time and it wasnt even a problem as simple as turning off and on a console... the tittles of those articles sure LOVE to OVERREACT.

is it me or some sites are really trying to push this as a giant problem it isn't?

Actually. This has been widley reported and seems to be growing . A quick google shows 100s of news outlets have repoted it..  Sony even responded on Twitter yesterday about the issue.   So it might be growing..    I wouldn't say "disaster'.. But it might be wide spread.

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:

PS4: 85-95m

WiiU: 20-30m

So much exaggeration.

This thread sou ds more like, "Sony has been doing so well with the PS4, that we like to create mountain rains out of molehills a la Fox news to bring the fear of death to people."

I can't use rest mode at all since the update, all that happens if i put it in rest mode, is that the yellow light on the console keeps blinking indefinitely and then i have to hold the power button on the console down for a good 10 to 20 seconds to turn it off, and then when i turn the Ps4 back on it warns me that the playstation was turned off wrong and it does a quick database scan to check for errors. I have just been completely powering down the console for now, but i hope they fix it soon because i really like charging my controllers while in rest mode. Standby/Rest is usually the only thing i use.

I realize not everyone is having this problem but it's still a decent sized problem, because out of my friends on PSN, 12 of us have playstation 4s, 3 of us are having this problem.

This company and console cant just catch a break this quarter

I've used rest mode a few times to charge the controller and never had an issue with starting the Ps4 after. Perhaps they mean it auto shuts down after several hours instead of staying in rest mode, but that is pretty much a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.
India read something that said you needed to shut down the Ps4 and restart it to prevent the rest mode thing from happening and I normally do completely shut off the Ps4 unless the controller needs charging. So my normal habit possibly prevented me from experiencing any freeze issues.
Seems like it's a real issue, but it also seems like the seriousness of it is being overblown to FUD proportions.

I wonder if this was the Xbox One having these problems would this thread already be 10+ pages haha Anyways! My co worker had this problem and i told him to try unplugging it and waiting a few mins and restarting the console and his has been working fine ever since. Let's just hope they hurry with a quick fix update to correct the bug.

No let's hope they don't hurry with a quick fix. The issue isn't that serious, an hurried quick fixes are just as likely to introduce new problems as fix the old.

It happened to me but I just manually powered it off & it turned on after. People online said there was a way to get around this, I followed their steps, and haven't had a problem since.
