What game is worth 400 or 600 dollars? What you are saying is you've never played it but you are sure of it's value? What game is worth the 600 dollars that you paid for your PS3? Isn't it a combination of games or the prospect of something from the future?

Remake Final Fantasy VI in HD glory on a system that costs $600 and sign me up. Even if that is its only game.

Depending on the game, a systems entry fee can easily be worth it. Although I doubt what I stated above would ever happen.

After having a talk with my girlfriend I think I am pretty sure to be picking one up today. I would mainly purchase it for RPG's and any oddball title my girlfriend wants, as I can never see myself paying money for basic online play. So if I were to ever buy an online game, it would be for the PS3.

Do any of the XBox 360 RPGs have online updates? Would it be smarter to grab an Arcade or a Pro? Also please tell me I do not need a Gold account to download an update or patch...

 THAT'S MY POINT! no game is worth picking up a console for. If he's only interested in one game. then don't pick up a console.

As a fan of JRPGs, WRPGs since they are the reason I bought a X360 when it launched.........

For RPGs/WRPGs, I'd sugguest:

Blue Dragon - As much as some malign the game, it's very very good. Very similar in style to Dragon Quest VIII, but the music is from Uematsu and VERY remnicent of the older Final Fantasy games (IV and VI come to mind mostly). It's under $40 new and is around 50hrs. Some aspects are childish, but overall, very good.

Lost Odyssey - Duh. User reviews are fantastic for the game.

Culdcept Saga - If your a fan of RPG/TCG's, it's a great game. Just got it a few days ago, and its very addicting. If your not a fan of TCGs...Not a great game to get, but very fun if you do.

Remember to check the top sugguests that are stickied to the page - all the games are under $40.

As for Mass Effect - definately rent it. Its more linear, and story driven than Oblivion ever was.

 For the 360, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Viva Pinata, Gears of War and Gears of War 2 are pretty much guaranteed pickups. There are a few others I may buy/rent in the future. 

As pointed out in this thread, 360 does have the best RPG lineup right now and that has always been what decides whether or not I buy a console.

I think you are confusing "giving advice" with "Please buy the console I own".

Some of us here are actually trying to give rational advices, instead of push the console (PS3, xbox, Wii, whatever) onto the guy

 If you see yourself wanting to buy 5-10 exclusives for xbox, then it's a buy for you. If you want ONLY LO, then no.

Some are still recommending games he's not interested in (Bioshock for example, although Euphoria wrote he's not interested in FPS).

My sister once bought her Xbox for Top Spin only and she never bought any other game for the console. Now she would buy a 360 for Scene It only, but this time she thinks it's too expensive (and she doesn't have a HD TV).

So if you got the money, why not buy a console for only two games in the first place (LO & Viva Pinata)? I don't see any problem with this.

And - in my opinion - pro/con recommendations by others won't help you finding out if you like LO. You should at least rent console and game and find out yourself.

But why are you giving advice for a console you don't own?

I OWN a X360 FOR THE RPGs. I am in the same catagory of gamer as he is. I despise FPS games, and picked up a 360 for RPGs. You don't own a X360, king, you own a PS3. Your going to say "don't pick up a X360 for one game" because you don't know the library - I do! It'd be like me saying that the PS3 only has one good game (Uncharted). I'd think that because I don't own a PS3, therefore have no real reason to provide guidance on that system. But I own a X360, love JRPGs, and feel that I *might* be able to say that if he wants LO, and his GF want VP, there are more than enough other big games on the X360 to warrant a purchase.
