Forums - Gaming - Can anything save us from the "can anything save the Wii U" debates?

Lastly, a provocative question, how do you rate a successful console:

A) The one where they deliver what they promised and then some?

B) The one where they promise 1080p 60fps, the 2nd coming (aka Watch Dogs, Destiny, Driveclub, etc) and disappoint the fans?

I'm a Wii U owner (as well as an Xbox One and PS4 owner) and err....the Wii U has broken a few promises, too.  Being close to the PS4/XB1 in power, dual Game Pad support, tons of third party support, 4K resolution support, etc.

Don't get me wrong.  The Wii U is my absolute favorite gaming device right now but I'm not going to look at it with rose colored glasses.  The situation is dire and there is a lot of potential going unfulfilled.  When the game with the best Game Pad support is a port of a one year old, 7th gen game (I'm talking about Arkham City back when it launched) then something is wrong.

As a whole, the entire 8th gen has disappointed me so far.  7th gen gave me more than I ever dreamed of.

@ka-pi and others http://gimmegimmegames.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/nintendoprofits.jpg........look at this graph ....shows you profits from all three companies

@ka-pi .http://gamerinvestments.com/video-game-stocks/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/sony-nintendo-microsoft-operating-income-chart-fix.jpg....this is the profits of all three companies up until 2011 .........people lie numbers don't ....everyone look at this chart........type in...... "State of the video game console war" and it has a graph on all three

You're on a site about video game and console sales. People here are more interested in that than people on most other gaming forums, so if you find discussing sales annoying than maybe this forum is not for you.

How could selling 80 million units for both MS and Sony not turn a profit when Nintendo, the company that has been in the console business the longest, only surpassed that mark ONCE with the Wii?

Dude, seriously, This is what i was talking about. U cant measure success on units sole alone. Production costs are not same for every console on every generation...

I understand that production costs aren't the same for every console on every generation.  But how can you say that a company lost money on the previous generation when they just came out with their newer consoles??  Companies aren't going to lose billions of dollars out of the kindness of their own heart.  They are also not going to invest billions of dollars into a division in which they hope will be successful.  Instead, they would gladly invest that money elsewhere.

If XB360 and PS3 weren't profitable, then they would have dropped out of the gaming market like Sega did...

The point that I was trying to make is that Nintendo, time and time again, does not have impressive numbers every single console generation like Sony, yet they are still around....

If Nintendo is making a profit, then everyone in the console business is too

Going from a 100mil console to selling worse than GC is a failure no matter how one wants to spin it. That is about an 80% drop. These threads will stop when people stop lying to themselves and accept

I think direct comparisons to xbox one and ps4 sales aren't overly relevant to the wiiu since it's not in direct competition. If it ends up turning a profit I think it has to be considered a worthwhile/successfull endever.

So by your logic ps3 was a failure?....it sold half of what. The ps2 sold.......how you gonna spin that ?
